2026 Champion Chase

….HDB re Quilixios;

‘He’s in good shape and we’ll look to start him off at Leopardstown’s Christmas meeting. He ran a huge race in the Queen Mother Champion Chase last season and that is the race we’re working back from. He’s a very good horse.’
Thanks eggs! I was actually thinking he may step up to the Ryanair this year, similar to envoi, but hadn't heard or seen anything of his wellbeing.

Agree - Galopin’s three previous festival runs over fences (two wins and a win bar falling at the last!) all were on officially Soft ground, whereas the 2025 GC was run on Good to Soft ground, which may help explain the huge turnaround in performance for the winner verses Galopin?
I think the ground also went against the winner, remember he hacked home the year before in heavy going.

Kalif Du Berlais will open in Haldon Gold Cup provided they get rain. Failing that, he'll start off in the Shloer.

Being greedy, I'm hoping it's the latter as I'm at Cheltenham on the Saturday and Sunday of the PP meeting and Jonbon v Kalif will be a sight for sore eyes.

Nicholls says he's up there with the best 2 mile chasers he's trained. That is some statement as he's trained some of the best ever.

Kalif opens up 7/2 for Haldon Cup. Looks like plenty of rain forecast.

They're going to need every drop of what's forecast for him to take his chance, currently good good to firm in places and Exeter drains well.
Looks like tomorrow (Tuesday) is when they get the lot, we'll know alot more Wed morning.
If he goes and it looks like a decent field I'll head down there, always a cracking day...

….Hills 14-1 CC, might be a tempting WTAF offer if he turns up.
Could be a very tough race . Calico, Gidleigh park, Leau Du Sud, JPR One all entered.

Dan pulled L’Eau du Sud from the race last year because of quick ground, if it is anywhere near good JPR One will be a big runner, looking forward to it…

15mm of rain at Exeter yesterday. Now Good all over but relatively dry now and very mild until race day. Touch and go . Kalif has at least been declared though.

….only 6 declared. Nicholls seemed quite keen to use this as a stepping stone so hopefully he turns up.
