2025 Ryanair Chase

Likely to be entered for both . Late decision depending on other entries and ground id say. There will be plenty like that. GE felt he wasn't himself last time as well.

Looks like a hot renewal of the Peterborough Chase today. Dan seems really confident re Protektorat. He could put himself firmly in the picture again for a repeat in the Ryanair.

I've tried to tell you lads before. My Nan said never back 10 year olds in G1's at Cheltenham Festival. She is rarely wrong. Trust me.

I'm not expecting him to win. I've backed him E/W expecting to yield profit that way. 25's is too big though, as others have said.

Over the last 12 years only Sprinter Sacre, Special Tiara and Sire Du Berlais were 10 or more years old winners in the G1’s at the Festival…….fair judge that Nan of yours BTT ! :excitement:

I am well on board with ignoring 10yr olds+ in grade one races at the festival.

However, I can also play with stats all day long.

In 20 renewals of the Ryanair, we have had 3 10yr old winners. (I could pretty much guarantee that they've not made up more than 15% of the runners in that time) So effectively outperforming all other age groups.

And 45% of winners were aged either 9 or 10.
In the last 8 renewals 50% were aged 9 or over :excitement:

2 x 10 year olds filled the places last year also.
In previous years, not many that age have tried, I think it averages roughly 1 per renewal.

In all seriousness, of all the races I'd say the Champion Chase, Ryanair and the modern stayers hurdle all probably need to have a softer approach to the hard and fast "10yr olds have no chance mantra" which I've championed on many an occasion (when it suited :highly_amused:)

Most importantly of all, The UK horse racing population is so short of genuine grade 1 performers at the moment then the ones that are, and have a fairly clear target, should be watched for potential value as the Irish challenge will thin out naturally as we approach the festival. Compared to the market now that is.

Will look to double him at those odds with someone in the AB, try and emulate last year with Stellar :semi-twins:

The question is will they bring Il est francais over for this?

2m4f just looks his optimum trip to me with his running style.

Really pleased with the Il Est Francais performance today with a view to the Ryanair, as I'm on at 33's but at the same time I'm absolutely gutted he got caught! Had a fair few roll ups with him that just got done!

Nightmare stuff :cower:

He's one I put up early on too but cashed him with the bleeding

Unreal display from him today though, that was great to see, gutting he got caught after running like that for 2m7 even without any money down on him.

Trainer mentioned could even go champion chase with him due to his jumping so is something to keep a listen out for.

They should just keep IEF to the British tracks now. Would love to see him in the Ryanair, Tingle Creek etc

Ruby strongly in favour of Gaelic Warrior coming here on this weeks Road To Cheltenham

I'd say they're confident that Energumene despite his age but with the benefit of still being lightly chased, and of course having El Fab, can represent the yard. Not forgetting Gentlemen De Mee. The DRF will tell us more.
