If all is well (let’s hope so) then surely that would send alarm bells ringing. 2 of his last 3 runs he’s just cut out. Was that Kempton run a performance way above? Did that run take too much out of him at a young age? Even at 10/1 I wouldn’t even back him for place money.

You are assuming Energ comes back from setback and at his age is still as good, and the he gets soft ground which imo he needs to beat Jonbon.
And also assuming EF jumps well enough, as he has not on his last two runs.
Personally I would say GW and J are more solid options for the QM right now.
I be would say though, if EF comes out and jumps well I would have him as number 1 for the stable.
In that scenario maybe Energ for this race?

In this scenario, do you have El Fabiolo and Gaelic Warrior racing against each other in the QMCC?

If you do, I can see where we differ and I wish you good luck as I think that's a braver call than mine!

If not, and you think Gaelic goes Ryanair, our difference is that you think Energumene won't beat Jonbon, which is a reasonable doubt to have but means our positions are much closer than your post suggests :encouragement:

Personally I’ve written off Energumene for this and the champ chase from a win perspective. Yes he could come back and pick up a grade 1 somewhere during the season but I can’t picture him winning at the festival. Moscow flyer the only 11 yr old to win the champ chase since 1978 and no 11 yr old has ever won the Ryanair since it started 20 years ago. Yes he’s lightly raced but to do it on the back of a season off through injury at his age will be too big an ask imo. Gaelic Warriors Arkle form keeps getting boosted and he’s the 1 to beat surely if he goes for the champ chase and I think he will

It was the French trainer that claimed that issue in France gallop last night. George didn’t mention anything like that when I listened to his interview.

It was his owner wasn't it ? Perhaps he was talking about why he was in the sidelines so long last time ? Maybe a reacurrance? I'd be horrified if he ran in the KG even though I've backed him .

Having spent most of last season backing Gaelic Warrior all over the place for the Festival I’m not sure that logic will play much part this season. If they go for the KG then logic might say the Ryanair due to trip factors but I’m convinced they will revert to 2m and the CC. They went that trip last year. It’s more prestigious. There is a link between Arkle winners and CC. But there I go again bringing logic to bear on the q. !

Agree completely. Whatever race he takes in on the way he'll end up in the CC. Worked AT CHELTENHAM this year and Willie just doesn't change things once they've worked. 2M is his trip AT CHELTENHAM.

I really don’t know to be honest, but I have a feeling if they are really happy with EF, he will be number 1 and GW could well run as well, remembering what happened last March with EF, plus imo GW as an Arkle winner should imo go QM.
So I guess yes I do:welcoming:
I really don’t see either in the Ryanair, but I can see Energ going there.
I think it will be really hard for Energ to come back and beat Jonbon over here, and if they do meet I would think J would be the winner.
One thing for sure, it’s going to be fun watching it all pan out!!

I can forgive him not getting home over 3m 3 1/2f at the weekend, provided no issues come to light.

He wasn't the only one that was fancied that ended up failing to deliver, and it was two of the more dour stayers (with proven form over that trip and beyond) that finished 1st & 2nd.

The run in April was probably less forgivable however, he was held up that day, and he clearly has a preference for setting the fractions, it's now the second time he's lost when being held up. No idea why they decide to adopt these change of tactics when it so clearly doesn't suit.

Where did you get this from Yosser? Seems odd him coming out with that before connections commented. R4H reckons IET is Willies horse for the race. Very unlikely he'd send two big guns for it imo. He's not done it before.

He said it on the ATR preview show. The one which made Kawaboomga's price crashed after his comments. He said something along the lines of "As far as i know, Gaelic Warrior is being trained for the King George"

It is, however, we seem to have been getting a LOT of swerves from trainers and people in the know this season. It's almost as if the bookies have asked them to give out false information.........:distant::distant::distant:

I know he led at the weekend, I didn't mean it to read that he was held up then. The trip in that ground was the issue for me.

All talk of tactics, trip and ground for the French horse seems like bollocks to me.
The horse has "thrown it in" in 2 of his last 3 races (for whatever reason, mental or physical)
Any backers just got to bear this in mind.

Grey Dawning should come here, on soft ground, he’d be a huge player for the Ryanair (but not the 2025 renewal, I’m taking the 2026 one lol). Before today’s race I questioned whether he would really stay, just think he’s better bolwing along over the middle trip

Meant to mention this the other day. During the Racing TV interview at the weekend, Donn McClean asked GE how he saw Found A Fifty, think the question was phrased 'do you see him more as a 2m or 2.5 mile horse' GE said 2 miles and that he has a lot of class.

Didn't sound like a definitive statement, more of a gut response to being put on the spot. Thought it was worth mentioning as I'd have expected a different answer if the Ryanair was the season plan.
