2024 Grand National

The 3 I like are

Mahler mission
Galvin
Chemical energy

The latter two definitely need it to stop raining so no bet at this stage

Galvin in particular looks nicely weighted, his mark has dropped plenty given he's not been trying

Il likely back all 3 on the day with a saver on Corach

Like you Quevega I'd be very sweet on the goffer for the topham if he lines up
 
Already on corach 20/1 ew Mahler 16s ew, Adamant Chosen 66/1 ew & meeting of the waters 33/1 Wh ew.

I like Mahler Mission also but just think he's been shafted by the handicapper - His form does not warrant a mark of 158 IMO.
The Hennessy has worked out well, but the best form in behind was from clear non stayers in that race.
 
I've back 3 so far. Chemical Energy, Galvin and Kitty's Light.

I'm getting rather sweet on Chemical Energy but could just do with the ground drying up a bit over the next fortnight.

He's not been seen since the Kerry National (where he ran well for a long way) but I believe the plan has always to go to Aintree fresh. The run in last seasons NHC reads well but the ground will be key.

I've had a speculative couple of quid on James du Berlais on the exchange at silly odds. Not sure he's crying out for the trip but he's carried lots of weight against some good horses in the past.

Didn't notice he'd been put up 3lb by the national handicapper that seems harsh

He looks badly weighted now with corach, I am maximus, delta work, galvin and minella indo
 
I’m assuming Blackmore will ride minella indo? Currently 25/1, what’s the SP ? 10/1 maybe

…..16 taken out at the latest declaration stage, leaves Panda Boy at no35 needing one more to come out at 5 day decs for him to get a run.

I have Kitty's Light on my to do list also but have held off for now on a class thing - and I'll no doubt add more...

Also done the related double on Meeting and Panda with The Goffer in the Topham (no idea if he runs in the race but would like his chances if he did and he looks a non stayer for the big one)

I don't think you need to stay as much as you think but you certainly need stamina after the last.

Big worry would be Corach but I might just cover him for my stakes nearer the time.

Have added another 2ptew 16-1 Meetingofthewaters and another 1pt Panda on exchange.

cashed the Goffer doubles and added 1pt at 150+ on exchange as looks more likely Gordon will send him to the big one. Can always add again if he lines up in topham that the lizard is going to win anyway :playful:

And with Limerick Lace looking like running also have added 1ptew 25-1 on her.
Kitty's now in the team also 3pt win 16-1 B365.


So that might be it until final decs 9 is enough I reckon.

Fairly confident that Meetingofthewaters if declared will be close to Fav and has an outstanding chance. Which means Panda Boy has also
(been a random drift on him today and the top 3 have all shortened)

I do fear Corach still, and Maximus and Vanillier but will have to be against them I think if the prices stay wrong.
There is reasonable arguments against all three at the prices, as they are all not that well handicapped and aside from Corach the other two have jumping issues. Certainly not armchair rides anyhow.

Have had 2 x 0.5pt doubles the other day with Nick Rockett and Corach/Noble Yeats, so hopefully he does the business Monday and I'll have 2 course specialists covered before the day for little outlay.

Agree with this too although not sure she'll turn up. No harm NRNB - would be close to bottom weight..25s 5 places with 365
 
Hoping rain stops being forecast in the lead up to the national. Seems like that is all it's done the past 6 months :glee:

Interesting that Desertmore house was pulled from the Irish national final decs today so I’m reading into that they think they might sneak in here.

Do you think we could do a short preview on every horse between now and the race?

Be interesting to see what the comments on the eventual top 5 would be.

Start with top weight and work our way down. Same person can't go twice in a row.

Horse: Conflated
Weight: ​​​​​11st 12lbs (166)
Price: 50/1
Verdict: Top weight has traditionally struggled and Conflated also may be unlikely to turn up on the day. If he does show, undoubtedly has class and potentially has been trained with this race in mind. Wouldn't be a surprise at all to see him in the places but likely to find a couple with nicer weights outstay him. Last horse to win off top weight was Red Rum

Next Up: Noble Yeats

DH needs a far sounder surface than the going at Fairyhouse today. That was the reasoning behind the NR.

Added Nassalam @ 40/1 E/W last week, on the back of the potential weather and going.

Cash out available so should it not come up soft/heavy or heavy I'll probably get out the bet.

Also backed him @ 10/3 for a top 10 finish.
