2023 Supreme Novices Hurdle

Well done Marine backers. I was very wrong there

Times compare quite well to the Champion Hurdle. Yes CH was more impressive and carried more, but MN was well on top towards the end, same age as CH and both likely to keep improving. Should be clear 2nd fav for CH next season imo. I'd Hazzard a guess State Man might be jumping fences next term

CH is surely jumping fences next year too. There's a GC with his name on at some point.

If that was 100% the case then MN would be a cracking bet. I get the impression they might stay hurdling another year then possibly fencing.

Townend wasn't great but all he'd have managed was finishing closer, that was savage from MN

Couldn't have put it better myself. Townend thought he had to go for the gap 2 out and that alongside FVs keenness changed the winning distance only. MN was best horse in race - one of a few races I called wrong today!

Barry Connell already confirmed they'd be back next year for the Arkle.

Waste of time for CH in my opinion, hes won it now, put away a top rival for legacy purposes, nothing to prove, a performance everyone will remember til the day they shuffle off. Fences surely await.

Just read post race comments, I see he used the word probably, so maybe if CH ends up novice chasing they'll switch that plan up lol.

There was no probably about it in his interview right after the race! Have to admire the balls trainer and jockey have.

Think Barry is going to out go Gordon with future race honesty. Plus the fact the yard is only 25 or so. He doesn't want other owners either. It is a boutique bespoke set up. Will be punter friendly in terms of targets.

Guys, I know it sounds as if Barry Connell was bullshitting with those comments around the DRF, but he has gone away and really thought out how he can, as a man of money, succeed in this game when you have all the PtP winners going for silly money and the avenues for good French breds being blocked by the existing agents who all have the existing premier trainers/owners on speed dial.

His operation is a plan in process, with barely 30 or so horses, all in his ownership. Great to see this innovation. He's also secured the services of a burgeoning talent in the saddle with the necessary balls of steel.

Ah fair enough, I was just reading through the quotes on RP

"I hope we are only beginning the journey now," he said of his six-year-old, who returned at odds of 9-2. "This lad will probably come back for the Arkle next year. That would be my initial thought at this point in time but we'll see. Today is for enjoying today."

Not the first time they've misquoted people though

Here's his initial reaction anyway
