2022 Ryanair Chase

I am probably way off with this, but is there any chance Galvin ends up here?

I know the main talk is of the Gold Cup or the National but there is doubt over his viability as a Gold Cup contender and it's not the most obvious plot for the National either. Even if he wins at the weekend, winners of the race don't have to be of Gold Cup standard as many are undercooked on their first run of the season. The Storyteller and Road to Respect are recent winners and neither have been up to winning a Gold Cup (although aware Road to Respect did come 4th to Native River).

Haven't seen him priced up anywhere, and more so just a bit of a musing. Just think he's maybe one of those horses that wins races without being top drawer and has ran over a variety of trips. I think he could well win on Saturday having already run this season but have not got him covered for the GC. His to win any race price is abysmal - so will just back for Saturday and wait and see.

Surely he lacks the speed of a Ryanair winner? Unless they are digging trenches at the Cheltenham course, a national hunt chase winner shouldn't be able to cope with a spring heeled Allaho as well as a few others.

Has a horse ever dropped that much in distance at Cheltenham before and won?

Stayers to Arkle if that counts.

My Way de Solzen did exactly that though I'm not sure which came first, he may well have gone Arkle and onto Stayers, can't remember...

Galvin's strength is the ability to switch off and have plenty left in the tank at the end of a staying test. In a fast run Gold Cup he could be a player, but he'd benefit even more over a 'National' trip, or even in a XC trial for the National.

Do we really think he'll turn up on Saturday on ground he hates by the way?

Stayers came first, My way de solzen just hung on to deny Golden Cross ridden by a certain Johnny Murtagh.

Beat Fair Along the following season in the Arkle.

No, not on Soft or worse.

I've backed Frodon in it.

Minella Indo's season is geared around March not tomorrow.

Galvin either won't turn up and if he does it's because Elliott sees an opportunity to mark manage.

All of Gordon's have needed a run so far. And anyhow Delta Work has loads to prove, and Ravenhill just can't be good enough.

Nicholls will have Frodon there to win and he'll be fit and treating it like a Cup Final. 4/1 with 365 is a stonking good bet.

He's Back!!

And I don't think HDB's are in great form atm, so very happy with that

Shame Shan Blue fell when he did because up to then I thought he was running a great race in regards to this. Can see him travelling behind Allaho and his jumping keeping him up with him. Would just be a question of whether he's good enough, and also now if the fall has an impact on his usually excellent jumping.

Wrong thread mate :beaten:

Absolutely, but the Gold Cup isn't the right thread either I think.

Would be electric over 2 miles. He'd run them ragged and the jumping talent is there, it's whether Henry can get it back out of him. Seriously considering a QMCC bet.

Its either this of the QM I think too.

Henrys Interview after the race is 'There's every chance (he could run in the John Durkan), it would be a suitable trip for him. He's a horse with a lot of pace'.

Henry giving serious Ryanair vibes in his interview on racing tv here, or at least not seeming keen to commit to any intention of stepping him up in trip

Wouldn't put you off it but definitely runs to the line like there's plenty left in the tank, wouldn't be dropping him down in trip if it was my choice. Just glad he got round though!

Envoi coming here would slightly increase the likelyhood of alloha going queen mother imo.

Also if Allaho wins the King George, surely Willie would be tempted to try the Gold Cup. He only has ABP and Asterion for the GC atm and neither are right at the top of the list to win the GC currently
