2022 Novice Hurdle Division

I could be completely wrong but im sure Hubrisko got a mention in the last edition of One Jump ahead, I remember a pal saying Hills had him up at 66/1 in a special bet for Supreme 2022.

As I say I could be wrong

Aye, NH’s usual, one bumper run then put them away for hurdles next season.
 
I backed the Nicky Henderson novice I Am Maximus in both the Supreme and Ballymore at 50/1. I think it’s a big price considering he beat My Drogo in a Cheltenham bumper earlier this season. Not seen since and bypassed the Festival he will go hurdling next season. Another expensive purchase for Mike Grech, he will have big expectations next season and hopefully will progress to become one of Henderson’s leading novice hurdlers after a rare bleak season for the former champion trainer.

Pair of nice prices there TKP and the line through My Drogo is a notable one, but any of next seasons novice hurdlers that don’t come with an Irish passport come with a red flag for me.
Also, any new purchases from PTP or France will land in Ireland, there’s a risk something may come off the flat and as we know the best bumper horses that we’ve seen so far are also Irish.
Nonetheless sitting on 50/1 vouchers is a nice position to be in...

Hi Fitzy. You are correct, Hubrisko got a decent write-up in the latest OJA. Rich Ricci wrote "I don't know at this stage whether he will run in juvenile hurdles in the New Year or be saved for the following season. He looks a very exciting prospect though."

Thanks Madmoose. Sorry but I chuckle every time I see your name and avatar! I remember backing Mad Moose a couple of times hoping and praying he would start! I also watched a montage of Mad Moose's famous fails recently. On one occasion he planted himself at the start and Nigel Twiston Davies whipped off his belt and proceeded to wave it round his head in a vain bid to try and encourage the horse to race! Classic case of 'you can lead a horse to water.....' :biggrin-new:
 
Dark Raven has been declared in the Sunday bumper at Fairyhouse. I was quite taken by his last win and has now been bought by Munir and Souede.

Showed quite a bit more pace than I expected, looking at his pedigree and is one on my watch list for next year over 2m4 or further.

Feels like this carried a lot more weight 3-4 years ago. Perhaps recency bias after a poor Cheltenham has crept in but they've had a quiet time by their normal standards in recent years haven't they?

More interesting to me than anything when a big owner buys one from a smaller owner at Willie's.
 
Another interesting bumper horse for Robcour in the last at Cork tomorrow, Largy Fix beat the Bosses Oscar in a PTP but hasn’t been seen in 2 years

edit: would be 7 next year so against a lot of trends

Keen to add Dark Raven for the Supreme and Ballymore before he runs today - he was impressive at Leopardstown and that final furlong really caught my attention the way he hits the line. Sold privately to Munir / Suede this week too.

I think it would take a really really good horse to beat him today.

Only priced up for the bumper at the moment I believe.

I've backed him for today a couple of days ago. I think he will prove to be a 2m4f or further horse, but I can't see him priced up for the Ballymore anywhere.
 
Added Balco Coastal for the Ballymore before his possible run at Aintree this week and Gentlemansgame run today. Balco Coastal’s RPR on his sole bumper start was 130, 6 behind Sir Gerard’s 136. With De Boinville saying after his bumper win he’s sure to stay 2 and a half miles I’ve gone for the Ballymore and Hills’s standout price of 50-1 (56 with boost) as opposed to the 20’s with PP.

More than satisfied with that and he will have learned an awful lot for it. Looked a bit outpaced at one point (or maybe just too relaxed), but once the gap opened he went through it straight away and looked better the further they went. Will be interesting to see if he can jump as he looks like he's got an engine.

For Cheltenham, I still think he will need further than the Supreme and its difficult for 5 year olds to win the Ballymore and Albert Bartlett but he's right up there in the best bumper runners this year.
 
Glens of Atrim remains a novice after only placing yesterday.

Would follow down the Concertista/Let’s Dance/Hook Up route that Willie has utilised as a second season novice

She certainly didnt look a mid-trip mare yesterday too, she went well until two out.
 
It would have to be a weak division for her to win it next year. She’s been well beat a few times now.

Agree. She will surely find 2/3 too good again when it really matters.
