When you think the last 5 GC winners have been off 164,166, 164, 175 and Minella Indo 164 last year then Galvin really has a serious chance on the Friday.

yes he does, Lobos, cos he loves the place too, and stays 3M6F there.

The first to Win or Place in the NHC since Minella Rocco and Native River to try - they were 2nd and 3rd in the Gold Cup, then Native River won it the following year.

On ratings he is a bit better than Minella Rocco and 2lb to find on Native River (on RPRs), c/w where they were rated when they lined up and came 2nd and 3rd.

Good step up from Galvin, but for me, that race was there to win if he was good enough. He pretty much headed Frodon but just didn't have it in him to beat him. He had the race fitness on side, for all Frodon will have been fit as a flee.
Thought Frodon jumped to his left sometimes also and wasn't quite as fluent as he can be. Probably because he's also a better horse LH'd also.

Still don't have Galvin down as a likely winner here but he's 20s still, just not sure how much more progression he's got.
 
Yeah i must say i boarded that galvin train and i think hes got a solid chance

Cheltenham and spring ground can eek out that much more improvement. He wouldn't have liked the ground at the weekend at all. They were in two minds to pull him out. Glad they didn't ! One thing we need to take on board is that all 5 runners in Saturday's race were previous Cheltenham festival winners. It was a proper race. Top class.

I really like the way Galvin picks up in the last half mile and I think the Gold Cup will play to his strengths if he’s produced late like he was in the NHC, he handles the hill very well at Cheltenham and is a powerful horse over 3miles so the GC will be no issue for him with the current market leaders.
Frodon was brilliant again yesterday and Bryony makes a massive difference, I’d like to see her get a few more grade 1 rides this year, she’s a really brave and entertaining jockey for a split arse, I really rate her and like Blackmore is more than capable at the top level.

Their relevance as previous festival winners means absolutely nothing if they weren't primed to the level that won them those reputations - this is a really important point when quantifying the value of form. Gordon said Ravenhill wants 4m which we know, he was adamant Delta Work wasn't fully fit which was obvious, and the same could be said for Minella Indo. Now I look back at it, Minella Indo and Delta Work's proximity to Galvin, given everything went in Galvin's favour, leaves me in little doubt they'd both reverse the placings race fit, and thats before factoring in other G1 horses. Galvin will divide opinion for a long time because IMO he sits right on the cusp of being a G1 animal, which can be said for lots of NHC winners, some of which make it (NR). He has enough ability where 40/1 now looks mustard to some, and 20/1 now looks rubbish to others. I'm in the latter camp, for now.

Also add the extra 2f and Davy on board and id say he has a great chance as well.

Delta Work year in year out, starts at Down Royal to blow away to cobwebs, was beaten further by The Storyteller last year. Chris's Dream the same. Tout Est Permis beat him!

Minella Indo 12pds officially rated better was only 3/4l ahead this year.

Top class horses, but two of them were there to win and two weren't that bothered, let's be honest about it.

Galvin is a good horse, and has proven himself better than a X-C chase but he's still got a lot on his plate to get near a GC win for me anyway.

Given he essentially headed Frodon 2 out on Saturday, i'd have expected him to stay there if the extra distance is seen as the positive you'd think it would be.

Make no mistake, it'll be fascinating to see how he gets on going forward now.

Nope he didn't, he did the two seasons before that. He's a weird horse, but one that won't have been ready for Saturday past i would say.

Thats what Frodon excels at, really guttsing it out. With maybe Davy on board getting stuck in, who knows whether he could have lifted him home

I think the ground made all the difference to winning and coming second. It was not to his liking yet he still ran a superb race.
 
King George entries tomorrow. That race could be an absolute Stormer if the likes of Allaho, Minella Indo, Asterion Forlonge or Envoi turn up to take on the best of the English.

The ground thing for Galvin is a bit of a misnomer. Or Bullshit where I'm from.
That was his best ever run at the weekend.
His other best runs were also on softer ground.

Dont agree with you on that one Q. He's far better suited to good ground or at worse ground on the good side of Soft. With those conditions next March I genuinely feel he'll be right there and if he had those conditions at the weekend we could now be talking about the new GC fav .

Majority of Frodon's wins have come on better going too.
