2022 Festival Antepost Tipping Competition

How's everyone's tips looking ???

I think I will just give up on day 4! I kept on meaning to go back in and make changes and forgot. I've been banging on about Elimay winning the Mares all year and she's in about 20 e/w doubles and for some reason I've put down Concertista and I cant even stand her! Don't know why the love of god I put Plan of Attack down and Gentlemen De Mee as well, not backed them once or was ever interested in them at any stage. Certainly wont be winning this.

Being as though I saw Q start a new competition I went back as I thought we hadn't had any results from last year. I see that ryanh97 hasn't been around for a couple of months so I hope I'm not interfering but I though I'd go through the results to see who got the most winners (didn't fancy doing the whole points system shabang). And find out any interesting stats from last January about our predictions.

The turnout was huge, I have it down as 113 individuals entering!!

The Top Score was 8 predicted correctly which was done by seven people:

TiggerRoll
knockando
Ray
Terrier4life
Mighty
DenmanSacre
Curly

Congratulations All!

From my memory looking at the races no one predicted the winner in the following 12 races:
Mares Hurdle
Boodles
RSA
Coral Cup
Cross Country
Grand Annual
Pertemps
Mares Novice Hurdle
Kim Muir
County Hurdle
Albert Bartlett
Martin Pipe

That's nearly half of the races by the end of January. Now 7 of these were handicaps, which we now know it might be best waiting for much closer to the festival for picking these winners. But still 5 none handicaps.

The Mares Hurdle - People had Maries Rock for the Coral Cup but she was a complete outsider to win this back in Jan
RSA - L'Homme Presse came out of nowhere (GDC was re routed)
Cross Country - Again Delta Work out of nowhere entry wise and then broke hearts to beat Tiger Roll
Mares Novice - Love Envoi came out of nowhere as well (ADV and Brandy did miss the festival)
Albert Bartlett - The Nice Guy out of nowhere

That's 5 non handicap races where the winners had hardly been mentioned by the end of January if at all!

From the results the Thursday was the betting day!!

The majority of people had Bob Olinger (fortunate), Allaho & Flooring Porter in their teams, with the only other really popular winner being Honeysuckle. Lots of other winners but they were spread about for example the supreme with Sir Gerhard, Dysart Dynamo and CH all having lots if not an equal amount of picks.

The handicaps that did get predicted correctly were:

Ultima - Coarch Rambler
On The Fringe
Tonic
Another Value Loser
Imperial Commander

Stable Plate - Coole Cody
Charlie
Star De Mohaison
Mighty

It all shows that anything can still happen between now/end of Jan to the festival!!

Too right !
Good reminder this.

I wrote a script to calculate all the points scored in this years tipping comp, so I thought I'd work out who won last years for completeness! (And to test my script worked...).

I did suck all the tips into a spreadsheet so hopefully they're all correct, and many many typos/wrongly formatted posts later, I believe last years winner was Mighty with 135.1 points! Very closely followed by TiggerRoll with 132 points, and Odin completing the podium places with 123.7 points. The winner being decided by an excellent 35 points in the Plate, tipping up Coole Cody at 25/1.

All the results can be found HERE. If anything is wrong... well you only have yourself to blame for typing it wrong or formatting it wrong so my sympathy has disappeared over the past hour or so :highly_amused:

Bloody Hell! Winner in my first year on the forum - all downhill from here…

I just want to thank Native River for his excellent festival trends thread in the members forum. It was he who suggested Coole Cody as the one to watch in the Plate, so I owe this victory to him - staggered only 3 people tipped it up. If you’ve not read it yet, go and have a look. Plenty of gems and trends to look at for this year’s festival too.

Absolutely no pressure this year then…

Hi all,

Apologies, due to illness and also starting a new job in a few weeks I'm not going to have time to do this :numbness:

Ah good ol' state man in the county, the Willie Mullins cheat code from the same guy who tipped vintage clouds for the Ultima and Marie's rock for the coral!

Don't think I've got too much chance of pulling off a similar podium finish this year unless Willie does the right thing (for me) and sends gala Marceau to the Boodles....

Capitals on a horses name my friend... :highly_amused: and a few spelt wrong, did say I wouldn't catch them all! So bloody glad that it's automated in a google form this year!

Gets you up to 91 points though... bit better!

Thanks for the kind words Mighty!

Now if only I had listened to my own work and put Cody down I could've gone close. Saying that I'll take the top 20, my best life achievement since topping that out Sky Fantasy horse racing 4 weeks into the year :glee:
