2017 Stayers Hurdle

Not much but good to see something at least. I guess Mouse Morris isn't one to be in the spotlight often so quotes are at a minimum from him

5 year old stat certainly not a promising one. 25% have placed though and 25% are by the same connections :very_drunk:

5 year olds don't have a good Champion Hurdle record either do they, so I wouldn't I'm not too disheartened? Rawnaq wins this anyway *crawls back under rock*

Stat is actually a positive imo. Gets an allowance (mares) too.

Fantastic Grade! Thanks for that!

Nichols Canyon seemed to jump right at a few didn't he. Can't have helped!

I feel like that is a very good piece of form, because Ruby is so good at setting the pace. Rawnaq right there with him, and got an easier time of it around the inside but I just feel by first watch that it was a true reflection. I'd assume some improvement or understand some reversal with the fact that the Mullins runners had to travel over and so on, but WIllie has had successful raids abroad before so clearly knows how to 'get them right' for a crack abroad.

I am very happy with 33s about Rawnaq, and I am going in again now... I don't mind being wrong as long as I've enjoyed the ride!

I wouldn't base a bet on a race over fast ground that they have in america vs the good/soft in Chelt; on NC who isn't a stayer and even lost his Neptune due to lack of stamina; or on Shaneshill whose season was well over by the time he was shipped over in US. Rawnaq is an admirable horse but wouldn't get in first 5 in a WH no matter how weak the renewal.

My bet at this time would be Jezki E/W if he comes back alright he has every chance of going close based on his form at the end of 2015 campaign.

Rawnaq has Cheltenham Festival form in the book from his time in Ireland so at over double the price of NC and Shaneshill I think its a good bet personally. 33s for a reason though so I accept your doubts.

I think you're a little dismissive of Nichols Canyon saying he isn't a stayer. He has group 1 winning form over 2m4f, goes from the front and makes it a test of stamina. I'd say he didn't win his Neptune because they didn't make use of him. Ruby said he'd ride him from the front if he could ride that race again. (I remember it well as I was waiting on Nichols Canyon to land a treble)

Jezki definitely has good claims and is a fair price, someone a few pages back put a good solid case forward. If I was trying to crab his "form at the end of the 2015 campaign" I would say he only beat Hurricane Fly, who is clearly a 2 miler... but I actually think it is good form, Zabana, Thousand Stars and Lieutenant Colonel all quite a way behind too. Jezki was the WH fave when injured too I think!

If you watch NC at the end of Neptune he was finished, nothing more to give, no stamina left, therefore not a stayer. His best form is over 2 miles in the Morgiana which was slowly run the first couple of furlongs that allowed NC flat turn of foot to come over at the end and have the run of things over an out of form Faugheen. I can't figure out why they still insist on making him a stayer but once he'll fail again in the winter trials they'll surely come around and either go back over 2 or flat. Keeping him over 3 miles to fail and fail over again would be cruel to watch for such a high class horse over 2 miles.

I wouldn't say that is the strongest form because it'd be very obvious that wasn't anywhere near Faugheen's best running. The Irish Champion Hurdle was a comprehensive turning around of that form and much much much more reliable. To say NC's best form is based on the fact he beat a 1/6, and not actually on the form.

Two from left field Kevloaf, but I've not heard how they are so any updates will be appreciated, Very Wood and Wounded Warrior for Gigginstown in this?

Oh yeh, not heard anything about them. From memory they didn't disappoint over fences so I can't imagine them being switched back? Have they been out injured? I actually don't remember them since the season before!

Any thoughts on Ptit Zig

Would appear to need proper Spring/quick ground and the 3m at champs pace would ask every stamina question of him, but any more improvement and he he could go close.
Strangely enough, I was thinking he could be a live outsider for the Champion as he doesn't seem short of pace though they're unlikely to revert back to the minimum distance

Could be a live outsider I think, as for ground, looks versatile looking at his form but would say Good to Soft, Soft is best, 8 next year and in the hands off the Champion Trainer who could just eek a bit more out of him? 1st run likely to be in France I believe

Not sure about the ground paz, he beat up on some small fields in his novice chase days on soft but he looks to be a proper quick ground horse to me.
I was at Sandown the last Whitbread day and walked the course, that was quick ground and he bounced off that, he may go on slow ground but I'd be keener to back him on quick...

Nicholls has a good record in the race doesn't he (Big Bucks to thank) but placed horses more recently too... appeared on the radar with the beating of UDS and the french hyped thing in France the last day. One of the numerous horses for this race that I think have a chance but I wouldn't back yet. I don;t think his price now is generous?

World Hurdle plan for Ballyoptic

His fellow Aintree Grade 1-winning stablemate Ballyoptic is bang on target to make his seasonal reappearance in Saturday’s Grade 3 totepool Silver Trophy Handicap Hurdle at Chepstow, when he steps out on a path signposted to Cheltenham in March and the World Hurdle.

Having bypassed the festival last season, Ballyoptic ended his campaign with a battling victory over Bellshill in the Sefton Novices' Hurdle at the Grand National meeting and Twiston-Davies is hoping the six-year-old can take high rank in the staying hurdle division this season.

"As long as we have ground on the soft side of good we’ll have a go," said his trainer. "He’s looking really well and is raring to go. I’m not going mad about it and it’s a bit of a prep run for the West Yorkshire Hurdle at Wetherby.

"We always thought we’d go the staying hurdle route this year and the World Hurdle is the dream."

I went in on the Faugheen (WH) and Annie Power (CH) double over the weekend. The double pays out at 24/1.
There's no way they'll race each other and still think this is the most likely outcome.

Until Thistlecrack runs I don't want to get too involved in this race so that small stake double will do for me right now

I'm on the same bet jono but had it with Douvan when it was first mentioned about Faugheen winning over further. Got 99/1 for that treble. I think at the price now it is still really fair. The double wouldn't be now than 6/1 if they did line up so at 4 times that price I think everyone should at least have a 'saver' on it

Can't be confident about the destinations but I'm in debate with a friend about this and he's adamant Faugheen is going CH and I'm the other way
