2017 RSA Chase

I generally steer clear of them after they've bled. Unfortunately I've already got him on side.

What is the reason behind that FM.... I'm not in a position to know why it would be such a long term issue. I always thought it was just a small issue, like a human nose bleed?

When they bleed it affects there breathing (explains why ADO stopped suddenly) and horses who have bled in the past are prone to bleeding again.

...and I suppose you don't know until it has happened. A shame, I really do like ADO for this race.

Afternoon Gents

Been a reader for a while but decided to try and contribute to the discussions.

I am very keen on Might Bite. I was dissapointed when he lost to Binge Drinker in november and felt Nico DB could of given him a better ride. I'm a big D.Jacob fan so when he got on board for the ride at doncaster I thought the horse impressed even though he was a odds on. He flew his fences and I thought this horse will be interesting in better company.

I got 9/1 for his Kauto chase race and was gutted as I had him in a £20 double with Poker School. I was baffled when he was lauched at the last fence.

RSA seems a race he could really run a great race and I am on at 14/1 E/W

Welcome GOAT

Stamina looks to be a given and you hope he'd learn from the error that cost him at Kempton, if that;s out of his system he's a big player for sure...

Welcome. Do Feltham winners often run in the RSA? I'm a little surprised that he isn't a shorter price, either the fall is holding the price or I'm missing something?

They normally bypass the RSA and go win a Gold Cup !
Seriously, this is another race where few horses double up and I've no idea why when you consider how solid the King George form has been with Gold Cup contestants over the years.

David Jennings from the Racing Post on a recent podcast said on ADO:

Bled badly...even in the stewards report afterwards, a little bit worrying

Only a small snippet but was a bad bleed

Might Bite is a really interesting runner for me. I do think the fall is keeping his price high but I'm always wary of a novice falling just incase it dents their confidence. Any idea on an intended target for his next run? I expect i'll be on oddschecker during his next run and if halfway through the race he's jumping confidently i'll likely try and back him in the race for the RSA such was the style of that Feltham run.

But yeah very odd for the race not to double up into the RSA considering the open company equivalent is such a strong trial so the talk of Kempton and Cheltenham being different types of track doesn't hold much substance for me. On quick recent glance more Feltham winners tend to go onto the RSA rather than not - Annacotty, Grand Crus, Long Run, Joe Lively, Ungaro all did. Coneygree and Dynaste had the RSA as their target for the majority of the season until a late chance in target leaving only Tea for Two and Breedsbreeze who didn't run in it in the last 9 years.

There was a trainer once who said he didn't like having horses in his yard who hadn't fallen before, he believed falling was a deterrent against future mistakes, can't remember who it was that said it....

So on that basis Might Bite could be a strong bet

Would be really interesting to know who that trainer was Ista - I can see the reasoning. Just a personal preference for me - As long as he has another run next up and is jumping well. In his 4 chase starts prior to the Feltham he looked to me as me as being a bit sketchy at his jumping and prone to a mistake so I was convinced on the horse before that Feltham run which bar Jacob at the last you couldn't fault. I definitely wouldn't want to see him go straight to the festival from a fall though. One trend I am keen on... ;) (though I know black hercules beat that trend last year)

But yeah the flip side is he's getting a proper jumping education so should be able to cope with whatever comes his way come a helter skelter race at the festival.

I don't think I worry enough about falling last time out. Hendo managed to teach Josses Hill to jump so that gives me a little confidence.

I haven't had a 'single' bet on Might Bite yet, but I really really want to. I am not sure what is stopping me.

Was just about to go in with a heavy Might Bite interest but saw this from a Stan James Q&A from, I believe, Henderson

''Firstly he is perfectly alright after his fall at Kempton. We have been doing plenty of physio with him as a precautionary measure and he hasn’t jumped a pole, twig, fence or anything at all since then as we are taking it very steady with him. Yes, the RSA is the obvious race but we have to see how his jumping gets on before we look at anything else. It really wasn’t what he needed.''

Just talking about Mite Bite on "On The Line".... says he is worried about mental scares and until he gets back jumping at home they won't know what to do...

Did he say that Jacobs will never ride the horse again?:)

Unfortunately not. :highly_amused:

Does sound like his participation is in doubt which is a shame.

Doesn't sound encouraging :grumpy:

Might Bite began his chasing campaign last season in the same race More of That won on his debut at the Open meeting at Cheltenham. He made several mistakes and was far from fluent. He then went back over hurdles for the remainder of the campaign. I cannot remember the quotes and cannot find any going back that far having had a quick look now but I'm sure now I remember Henderson being very cautious about him after that and had the thinking it may have set him back a fair bit. I'm sure it was along those lines anyway. I'm not saying he'll go back hurdling and the vague recollection probably doesn't add much!! But doesn't sound like he has never been the easiest to train nor that he is a horse who does well with setbacks going back a few years now.

On another note with the RSA in mind - a quick mention about Alpha des Obeaux from Bryan Cooper today:

Alpha Des Obeaux bled out of both nostrils, which is not ideal, after I had to pull him up at Leopardstown. He was giving me a great ride there but he suddenly went from hard on the bridle to next to nothing as if he had been shot.

I would imagine he would go straight to Cheltenham now and if Mouse can get him there in top shape then he is not a horse that I would be in a rush to underestimate.

I couldn't touch him in terms of backing him now and i'm downbeat on my antepost bet for him coming in but nice to see he may be able to make it for the race still

What has bascially happened there, is that our 'plan' for ADO to peak on the day at a nice price, is now not under the radar at all, but the absolute bet thing that can happen.

Gotta be in it to win it ...

A few question marks surrounding ADO now but the 20/1 is simply too big if he is going straight to the RSA. I know I have said that I hate backing 'bleeders' but this fella's hurdles form is up there with the best of them and he is built for jumping fences.

I'm going in again!

I can't go in again can I?

I'm on at 8s in a double with OTF (62/1)
A double with Peace News at 87/1
A single at 12s

Not looking good haha

I've got him at 12/1 also got him in plenty of multiples.

One of my ew Yankees is:
Native River 12/1 won
ADO 12/1
Jenkins 20/1
Don Poli 25/1 grand national

I'm praying for a miracle recovery from Jenkins!
