2017 Mares Hurdle

I backed Apples's Jade thinking VVM would be in the stayers and thought I was being smart. If VVM faced AJ in this though I think VVM will gain revenge for Fairyhouse. All talk of VVM for stayers seemed to go completely dead after Shaneshill's win, probably because that will now be Ruby's ride and we know how much sway he has.

:encouragement: I think you're right. One of the only big clashes to come before the festival will be Limini vs AJ.... depending on that result I think Mullins/Ruby, even if Limini is beaten, will know EXACTLY where VVM is in comparison. IF there looks to be strong market support, that'll be all I need to get vvery heavily invested in VVM (again)

The Mares listed race at Punchestown is tomorrow with potentially Apple's Jade v Limini.

Expecting a big shake up tomorrow?

If AJ SLAMS Limini, does AJ go for the CH?
If Limini SLAMS AJ, does Limini go CH?

If Limini beats AJ and its close, does VVM go for the CH?
If AJ beats Limini and its close, does that all but confirm VVM for the Mares?

Will connections of Limini/VVM let us know which one is being aimed where?

If I had to guess now, which I don't, I would say that Limini beating AJ would divert VVM to the CH, for Ruby to ride. I think Mullins and Walsh will want to continue their stranglehold on the race and VVM will run unless AJ is decisively beaten by Limini.

I imagine AJ is favourite for tomorrows race, so if AJ beats Limini, they'll get a sighter and any significant market support over the next few weeks for VVM I would take as a positive.

I will LOSE if AJ wins the Mares Hurdle... I have backed her in the CH and don't want to go in again to recover those 'losses'.

Ideal for me, would be AJ to slam limini and go for the CH :devilish:

All speculation which should get cleared up by tomorrow afternoon, although I won't hold me breath :highly_amused:

Jesus that was impressive from Limini. Picked Apples up easy and went past her. Very impressed

I am SO happy with that result.

AJ is winning NOTHING at the festival.... unlucky Gigginstown. That is EXACTLY why you don't take a horse away from Mullins.

Limini or VVM absolute banker material, whichever turns up.

Now that Limini has AJ covered, might as well let VVM have a go in the CH?

Could let Limini take her chance in the champ hdl, getting 7lb, would have to be a player

Sky still has 20s NRNB 2 minutes after the race. New phone meant I couldn't get my money transferred quick enough from the bank before it dropped to 12!

I really like Limini, but I had so many issues with her today pre-race. Distance, ground, opponent!

They'll know who is better out of the two .... I'd guess it'll depend on whether they feel Limini is better at 2m or 2m4f .... VVM seems to be 2m4f as her best trip?

***edit - actually reading back my post yesterday makes sense .... the comment about AJ slamming limini is just in the hope she went CH so I could lay off my stake

Well, well, well, that was impressive. Where to from here now though? Mares or CH? What happens to VVM? I probably have more questions than answers after that!

Do not think Limini or VVM would win Champion Hurdle but if have to gamble I would be tempted to go Limini as that run was pretty special. I think I read somewhere before from Mullins that said Apples Jade had fitness on her side and Limini would strip fitter as well. So... was there an issue Apples Jade? Was she not good enough? Has Limini improved that much from last year?

Although Ante post bets have been decimated from Thistle (had it at 10s and doubles with altior at 6s, DDS, VVM in mares etc etc) It is turning out to be pretty fascinating with all the sub plots and question marks

I'd have to go Limini for the Champion Hurdle after that. VVM looked the polar opposite of a 2 miler on her last run, and we are not far off Cheltenham now and I've always thought VVM needed a trip and she'll be heading to the Mares for me.

Exactly how I would see it now too. The wild card in Lets Dance who could drop into the mares and let VVM go to the stayers.

Ah yeah, that's true, she completely skipped my mind, but that could definitely mean RR has runners in the big races.

Limini not even in the William Hill Ante post betting for Champion H yet.

Trainer Willie Mullins added: "The conditions didn't suit us and we didn't have a run all season, so I didn't really know what to expect.

"The fact that Ruby didn't even have to pick up his stick means she has improved a fair bit from last year.

"I'm hoping that will bring her along nicely. The mares' race (at Cheltenham) is what I have been aiming for.

"She has run a stone better than I thought she would."

---- Said this in CH thread I think, but VVM to CH makes more sense.
It makes absolutely LOADS of sense that Limini would run in this race... she won the Novice version last season and the Quevega Mares race today... on route to the mares... it will become a very familar/path route I reckon :)

VVM has beaten the boys before, over 2m, in a grade 1... .Limini has been beaten ....

Just seen the Mullins interview with Gary O'Brien on Atr. Can definitely see Limini supplemented for champion hurdle and VVM staying Mares.

I am probably pocket talking though haha.

9/2 on Betfair 1/5 the odds is a bit of an over reaction...... Even if VVM AND Limini turned up, AJ would be in the 3!?! Few alright horses in behind, Jer's Girl? I'd fancy AJ to make the 3 regardless.... have they over reacted to today making AJ an each way price?

He looked blown away by her. If Ruby rides her will Nichols Canyon end up in Stayers. Wylie lies that race.

Already got Shaneshill in that, and he said he wouldn't run two against each other earlier in the season on FFP.

Nichols Canyon will be the one for Paul.... didn't do too bad against Faugheen many months ago ?
