2017 Grand National

Last season's race was run in particular wet conditions, probably heavy ground (can't remember). The year before Many Clouds won carrying top weight, or close to it. On decent racing ground the weight is less of an issue. If you're in and around the 11st mark I'd be happy enough.

At least he's guaranteed a run.

Yeah the rain came last year.
Since the fences were modified I think stamina has become an even bigger consideration and though Many Clouds won I think the weight angle is significant, I just think Many Clouds was something of a freak in terms of quality/calibre in the race.

Vieux Lion Rouge at #40 with 10st 7lb, very interesting....
Cause of Causes #31 10st 8lb
Perfect Candidate #13 11st

Got to be happy FM.
I thought he'd go up 7lb after Sundays win but he was only moved up to 156, if topweight runs and that's what he's set to carry then yeah I'm happy.

More of That 11-01 looks a nice weight for a horse of his ability.

Not a horse I'd be keen on at Aintree but I know he still has quite a fan base.

Yeah seems fair enough to me.

Don Poli 11-07. Hopefully all roads lead to Aintree now. I do hope young Mullins is on his back.

Outlander won't run so weights will rise, can see Empire of Dirt going off top weight, backed Cause of Causes immediately after weights announced :encouragement:

The Young Master

Jockey - tick
Trainer - tick
Weight - tick

but will wait for NRNB. Bet365 did it before Cheltenham last year.

Lord Windemere has been given a chance is anything left in the tank. The run against Champagne Fever was an eyecatcher.

Just had 2pts e/way on Cause Of Causes @ 40/1 with Betway as them & 365 are paying 5 places already, I know on the day some likely to pay 6 or possibly 7 this year, but thought it was worth a little investment early on.

Nicky on the sauce :highly_amused:

I took a punt on Vicente before Christmas. Very happy with the weight he received.

I have pre-backed Don Poli at 25/1 and Cause of Causes at 40/1.

I usually back 4, and the ones that catch my eye at the moment are Vicente, The Young Master and Minella Rocco. Blaklion's been given a chance as well, but even though I love the horse, I worry about him over those fences.

I can't believe I am even thinking about this race before Cheltenham.

Obviously backed Don Poli and also Cause of Causes ... then saw about 15 others that I liked so have switched it off and I will try not to come back in this thread before 20th March
