2016 Ultima Business Solutions Handicap Chase

Neil M

The Young Master – Ultima Business Solutions Handicap Chase – 14/1

“He had a good run at Ascot [in the Sodexo Silver Cup] and was dropped a pound by the handicapper.

“Things didn’t go according to plan that day, he got a bit behind at one stage and stayed galloping but didn’t get a clear run up the home straight.

“We gave him a flash around Cheltenham [in the Cleeve Hurdle], as we did with The Druids Nephew last year, to let him enjoy himself.

“You would like to think he’s off a competitive mark and if he gets a clear round of jumping he should be there or thereabouts.”

Carole’s Destrier – Ultima Business Solutions Handicap Chase – 20/1

“He’s come together a bit quicker than I thought. He had a wind op after winning the London National and I didn’t think I’d have him back in time.

“But he’s in excellent form and while I think The Young Master could run well in the race, I don’t think he’s badly handicapped either.

“He’s had the wind op and he should improve a bit for it, so I certainly wouldn’t be afraid of running two horses in the same race.

“He’ll have another gallop between now and Cheltenham and if that goes well then he’ll probably line up on the first day as well.”

I think Midnight Prayer needs further.

The two who roared out at me were Beg To Differ and Vyta Du Roc, the latter of which is aimed elsewhere.

I'm on Beg To Differ already, but if Nicky threw VDR in here, he'd absolutely canter round.

It'll be interesting to see where Jonjo thinks Holywell is these days, on good ground he's a livewire gold cup horse so 11st 2lb in this could be close to a penalty kick, but he was poor last time on his favoured ground so wellbeing cannot be assumed, and if he is flying at home Jonjo is probably still looking at the blue riband so probably a NR for this.
But, if he lines up he should be taken seriously....

I think 12's nrnb is a no brainer, don't you Ista?

Anyone got a good site for Handicap ratings like 146 etc? Helped me studying this race earlier can't find it anymore

Agree LR, hate taking a shorter price than you can but the NRNB is massive for this one.
If it rains on the Tuesday and ground comes up soft, rip your voucher up and back something else....

Strange that Jonjo made a point several weeks ago of saying Holywell falls short of top class but still thinks he is good enough to run in the Gold cup, I thought it was a big run last year, just needs his ground, as you say isty

I had a fortune on him last year but I didn't get the same weather forecast as everyone else and as you say to finish 4th on that ground he ran a belter.
he then went to Aintree and got to 2l of Silvi in the big G1 up there, that kind of form wins this race for me and getting dropped to his current mark is just a bonus, is there anything else 10lb+ ahead of the 'capper for this because they would have to be to finish ahead of Holywell (on good ground)

There will be plenty of juice in ground on the first day

The Irish National is a fortnight later and is more likely target for most of Irish entries imo.

The Young Master handicapped to win it. Phil loves the Waley Cohens.

I've also backed Holywell for this race NRNB. I haven't seen any quotes but am I correct in thinking the Gold Cup is still a possibility?

Well he came within 9l of winning a Gold Cup on ground he hated last year so if he was mine I would think he is still a Gold Cup horse but this years renewal is stronger.
If it warmed up, the sun came out Thur/Fri and the ground rode genuinely 'good' he would have a squeek but he'd probably still find 2 or 3 too good, at the weights I think the Tue handicap is well within him and that's where I'd send him.
That said he enters this years festival in very different form from last year...

JP McManus owned horses beaten favourites in 3 of the last 5. None of those runners placed.

Upswing for me but look at mala beach if it ends up any worse than good. Concern about jumping but you'd still get a good price faller insurance and he was likely about to run to a mark a good bit higher than this before coming down 2 out last time. Still quite lightly raced.

Upswing, all of a sudden has a favourites type of profile if you can forgive his last run and that's very easily done for me. He's so lightly raced over fences and prefers good ground so that Welsh national mud bath is being looked into far too much for me. I really liked how he ran at cheltenham behind one that is being considered for the gold cup (and I actually think Sausalito will have a decent place chance there being one of very few hold up horses in it).

Hoping to see a horse much more like that cheltenham run so went in 20/1.
