2016 Ryanair

Ruby said Champion Chase was race for Felix after his last run.

Walsh said: "He surprised me with the turn of foot he showed going to the last to go by Flemenstar, it was a good performance.

"I thought it rode a good race. I'd say the Champion Chase would be the place to go, he is a Grade One winner over two miles so it would look the obvious the thing to do."

Mullins said: "Ruby said he's still improving, and I'd imagine he'll take up his entry in the Champion Chase.

"The other option is to go for the race in Japan that Blackstairmountain won, but I'll have to talk with Graham Wylie. It's very expensive to run in, but there is big prize-money.

"We always thought he was better on better ground, but he seems to be handling this ground. If he went to Japan that would rule out Cheltenham."

So as a 6 year old he is their Neptune horse and as a 10 year old he's their champion chase horse ?
Could be convenient words given the stables lack of an obvious 2 miler....

:D Dont they have Vautour for the Champion chase :devilish:

Al ferof just getting shorter and shorter by the day, interesting now that Vroum Vroum mag is even shorter and ahead of al ferof in the market now, this has to be her race now doesn't it, so many twists and turns and we're still 5 and a bit weeks out...

Josses Hill makes his return to the track tomorrow at Kempton after taking a tumble at Sandown in the Tingle Creek.

He seems in very good form at home and we’ve been very pleased with how things have gone in his preparation.

We’ve decided to go up in trip as a test to see whether he can cope with two-and-a-half miles.

Although it may look like that we are seeing whether he is a Ryanair Chase horse, we are only taking each step at a time with him before we make a decision on future plans.

He’s been schooling at home a lot and seems in good order. Josses Hill is a very talented horse that I think we are really yet to see the best of yet over fences.

I’m hoping he can prove us right in the coming months.

I would still go to the Cheltenham Gold Cup with him," said Carberry.

"He just did not get into any sort of rhythm in the Irish Gold Cup and that is not him. He is usually a brilliant jumper but he just did not seem to come out of that ground.

"He ran so well in the Gold Cup last year that it is only fair that he should have another go at it, especially if the ground was a bit better this year."

but 70-30 for Champion Chase
Mike Spence, owner Alan Spence's son, said: "He slipped going into the fence at Sandown and had no chance to rectify it.

"It was bad luck, as he'd looked a different horse schooling at home this season.

"It was a crashing fall and while he's schooled well since, you've no idea how he'll react back in a race. You can never be sure, no matter what they do at home.

"I think he just scares himself sometimes and then he loses confidence.

"I'm convinced the engine is still there, when you look at his novice hurdles form behind Vautour and his win at Aintree, and even his run in the Arkle, he's very talented. I'm prepared to give him one more chance.

"We're running over further than two miles but that is purely because the ground at Newbury will be bottomless. This is the right race to run him in as he's got no penalty and comes out clear top on the figures.

"At this stage I'd say it's 70-30 the Queen Mother over the Ryanair. Barry Geraghty always said the faster they go, the better he jumps.
"

He reminds me of a horse Colm Murphy had that kept injurying jockeys - nickname was the bonecrusher - Zaarito - his form figures were 1113/215/F3F21FF1F7/2/5022/3/

Swishing tail and all but Josses gets the job done.

Road To Riches and Valseur Lido

The worrying thing from an Irish perspective when looking ahead to the Cheltenham Gold Cup has to be that a horse like Carlingford Lough could come from that far off the pace to land the spoils.

I’m pretty sure he’d have won anyway, despite Valseur Lido’s spill at the last, but that’s the million-dollar question we’ll never know the answer to.

Whether he heads to the Gold Cup now or even the Ryanair is the subject of much debate. I’d like to throw in the possibility of him missing Cheltenham altogether and being kept fresh for the Aintree Bowl.

As for Road To Riches, I think he looks sure to be aimed at the Ryanair Chase now. The trip looks perfect for him as he showed when winning the Clonmel Oil Chase earlier in the season.

Read the CC thread before coming here.

Seems very logical, and would definitely allow him that bit more time with his jumping.

Is Dynaste still in with a shout, 16/1 would look a lovely e/w price if coming back to his best, due to run this weekend I believe

Smashing must go for this race. He would have a smashing chance. ;)

was a nice performance today and I to thought straight away ryan air bound, however you look at the form and look at the potential ground conditions and he quickly doesn't become all that appealing, he definitely wants that heavier tackier ground and I doubt he'll get that at Cheltenham, i'll be sticking to likes of al ferof, vroum vroum mag and one of the gigginstown runners if they are given the go ahead over the gold cup

Yep, looking at his form he needs fost ground. the trainer mentioned it as well in the RP.

Silviniaco Conti to miss Cheltenham and head straight to Aintree....

Had a wind op this week. Pipe claims the hurdles run was to pick up prize money. I think if the horse is even 85% right, he'd be in the frame.

Will RR be more tempting running Vautour here now with VVM more likely going to the Mares.
