2016 4 miler

How about vincente from the nicholls yard? Will biddick will ride

Nicholls has horrific record in this race, always look twice at Jonjo/JP runners here.
There's a growing emphasis on class in this race and horses with extensive chasing experience and in top races coming out on top, Vicente has the experience but perhaps not in the highest quality of races...

O'Connor is a huge booking.
There are by my reckoning only around 7 or 8 amateurs who have the ability to get a horse home on these races, when scouring the 20+ runner amateur races you can scrub at least half the field on jockey bookings alone.
In the attachment bitchy put in the whispers thread I'm sure it said that amateurs claiming over 6lb haven't won for something like 10 years or so, also non claiming amateurs have a phenominal record at the festival proving only the better jocks can win races....

The jockey angle is massive in this race. Derek O'Connor has a great record.

Nina, Jamie Codd, Derek O'Connor, Katie Walsh and the dentist maybe, there aren't many others out there that can win the race for me...

Your missing Mullins junior from the list but you're right that the jockey is massive to a haunted roses chances in these races !

Agreed (along with PM) and one of these self fulfilling things now. They will be on the best horses. Forecast and Tricast the jocks.

You would have thought so, not therefore sure how Codd and O'Connor didn't get a booking for the 2014 renewal, family connections, drunk promises who knows, but you would assume that owners would want the best pilots, not always the case though...,

Minella Rocco is as low as 9/2 for the four-miler after he finished a close second in the Reynoldstown Novices' Chase at Ascot on his last start in February.

O'Connor, who won the race in 2011 on Gordon Elliott's Chicago Grey, said: "I'm delighted to get the opportunity to ride a good horse like that.

"He was a very good hurdler, and if he can produce his best form over fences then hopefully he'll have a very good chance.

"I was delighted to get the call to originally ride Native River, and I hate to let connections down, but Minella Rocco is favourite for the four-miler."

Just read that Mayo, he must be confident of a big run because if Native river won now it would be a huge embarrassment for him

“I think four miles round Cheltenham is right up his alley. Jamie Codd would ride him if he runs in it. He’s in a handicap as well and we’ll see what weight he gets, but if I have my way he’ll go for the four-miler.”

Jockeys

Derek O'Connor (1-4-8) rode the winner in 2011 and has also been on the runner-up on 3 occasions in past 10 years, as well as the 3rd in 2015.

Katie Walsh (1-1-4), Patrick Mullins (1-1-5) & Sam Waley-Cohen (1-1-5) have each ridden a winner and a placed finisher in past 7 runnings.

Joshua Newman (1-0-2) & Jamie Codd (1-0-8) have ridden the past 2 winners.

Nina Carberry (0-3-10) & William Biddick (0-2-6) have both ridden multiple placed finishers.

Got to be Southfield Royale for this…very genuine and tough, second in a G1 latest, 99% certain this is his target, unlike many will appreciate the extra distance and should be better for going left handed (jumped slightly left at Kempton) and Nina is up.

Can't see him out of the places and the 8s still available is still a great each way price in a race where the quality horses usually come out on top.

I like Southfield Royale, the only problem I have with him for this is that connections have always said he wants very soft going, the softer the better, I think there must be a strong possibility he won't get that, if he acts on the ground he must be in with a shout but these comments in the past have put me off a little

I've seen them as well MrMcG but the grade 1 he ran in lto was good to soft. I can't see cheltenham being better than good to soft on Day1 and i hope the extra distance will help as well. I also believe that RDF and Pont Alexandre will take up there different assignments further reducing the number of quality horses in the race

Forecast is dry, sunny and warm but I wouldn't be shocked if the taps came on over the weekend, there will be juice in the ground for Tuesday so Southfield Royale won't be on ground he can't act on...

Claisse was interviewed today saying the ground will be gd/soft soft in places, or even soft come race time on Tuesday and that's without any further rain. There should be no excuses for any horses if that's the case. Hopefully he'll keep the hosepipes away all week!
