Nigel Twiston-Davies intends to run The New One in the reopened StanJames.com Champion Hurdle Trial at Haydock on Saturday - if the meeting survives the weather.

The talented seven-year-old claimed an easy victory in the inaugural Betfair Price Rush Hurdle at Haydock in November.

He subsequently beat Vaniteux in the International Hurdle at Cheltenham, with Twiston-Davies later nominating Haydock as a likely target.

The going at the Merseyside venue is currently heavy and some 30 millimetres of rain is forecast before the weekend, with snow also a possibility.

But Twiston-Davies said: "It is still our intention to take him to Haydock this weekend.

"If the meeting is on, he will run."

I see Nigel is giving TNO another run in the muck.

Bet nation champuon hurdle preview

One of the few races i wont be betting this year. No Value 4 Faugheen and The New One who it looks like its going to be between. So can sit back and enjoy watching this one.

Interesting listening to that, I posted on the Arkle thread the other day saying I'd had an ew double on Sgt Reckless and Irving with the place double paying over 25/1 to your total stake, I don't think it's out of the question for Irving to run into a place. I'm already very well invested in Faugheen to win though at prices between 6/1 and 7/2, the question for me with that one is "to lay or not to lay"

The professionals say you should always allo yourself to win big so I like the idea of that Irving reckless double but not those horses ! Irving would need to run well in Kingwell to get me interested.

haven't played this race yet either FWIW

make of this what you will...

“Annie is fine and back riding out,” Mullins said. “And the mares looks the most likely race for her.”

The problem with waiting for a good run is that the price would probably go from 50/1 to 8/1, given the numbers now quoted that will be running in a different race, the same applies to Sgt Reckless, 3 or 4 of those ahead of him in the betting aren't likely to turn up.

I suppose they will tightened Irving up if he wins. Just seems to be one of those Nicholls horses that he has an excuse for when disappointing.

Don't think Nicholls really trained a Champion Hurdle winner either - Fry should get the credit !

Must try and get a look at Kitten Rock

Brian Oconnor

The ammunition Edward O'Grady has had available to fire at big races has been limited in recent years, caught up in the economic downturn along with so many others, yet he remains a famously shrewd and knowledgeable trainer and when he talks about Kitten Rock as a contender for the Champion Hurdle it's impossible not to sit up and take notice.

There will be widespread surprise if Kitten Rock actually goes and wins the thing. But if the forensic O'Grady is thinking in such elite terms then this is a horse to reckon with.

I saw the race with Kitten Rock at the weekend, he only got the better of Glens Melody due to that one making a mistake at the last, could still have won but would have been very close. Glens Melody gave Que Vega a bit of a scare at the festival last year but I think mainly because Ruby started his run a bit late and Glens Melody got a bit of a break on her. You have to respect the professional views coming out of the stable but it's difficult to see Kitten Rock troubling the principals in the champion hurdle, perhaps they think he will improve a lot for better ground but it would need to be a huge improvement, probably 20-25lbs I would think.

Morning MrMcG. Agree with that but I think they will probably runhim though - strange name for a gelding !

Also a chance he could be used to keep pace on for Jezki ?

You could be right there MG, if they use a pacemaker and they go at a strong pace I think that could give The Fly a bigger shout, though it could also mean Faugheen will do it all on the bridle rather than having to work for his supper.

Can anyone explain to me why Jezki is still avalaible at 6's with ladbrokes compared to The New One at 3's.Surely if anything these prices shud be the other way round.I think Jezki and Faugheen will battle out the finish in champion hurdle and my moneys on Jezki as the slicker jumper to prevail.
