Ballyhenry
Two out of two in bumpers, The Vestey Family Partnership's five-year-old is rated on a par with his more proven stablemate Barters Hill.
"He's a very smart Presenting horse from Ireland but he was always a big, backward baby last season," said Pauling, making his unbeaten record look all the better.
"His jumping is as good as I have ever seen. On bumper ratings, there's not that much to split him and Barters Hill, but that one has the form in the book.
"We think a lot of Ballyhenry. His schooling has been exceptional."
Pauling has an embarrassment of riches with the two horses almost ready to take aim at novice hurdles.
"I'm not interested in them carrying double penalties in those," said Pauling.
"They will step up in grade, however I would not be interested in them taking each other on until late in the season."
Always Lion
Won for Brendan Powell on debut before changing hands and is owned by Paul and Clare Rooney, who retain Jason Maguire to ride their horses.
His best effort from four runs was trying to give Philip Hobbs' Wait For Me 4lb and a beating in an Ascot bumper, as that horse went on to finish third at the Cheltenham Festival when the Gloucestershire horse disappointed.
"He was never in the race there as he got left at the start," said Pauling.
"And we know he wasn't quite right when he ran at Ascot, he was short of a piece of work or two.
"He's a very nice horse who jumps beautifully. He's strong and powerful ."
Novice hurdles are on the agenda.
Barters Hill
Sprang a 25/1 shock on his National Hunt Flat race debut and the rest is history.
Followed up by beating what was thought to be a useful Flat-bred type of John Ferguson's and then went on to ground out victory in Newbury's Listed bumper back in February.
That looked like it might be his limit, because he was all out to hold the challenge of Henderson's smooth travelling Buveur D'Air.
However, Aintree came calling, where the son of Kalanisi put the icing on the cake with a commanding defeat of Willie Mullins' Bellshill, who won the equivalent at the Punchestown Festival.
"Barters Hill has beaten the best of the best in the bumper world," said Pauling.
"I know they didn't think Bellshill would be beaten that day and there was 12 lengths to the third.
"He was well on top at the end and is a very smart prospect for the new season, but we know he has to prove himself again."
Pauling is looking at either a 2m 3f novices' hurdle at Huntingdon on November 1 or Kempton a day later as potential starting points for the classy sort, 25/1 for the Neptune Novices' Hurdle at the 2016 Festival.
"Whether we go two and a half miles or three depends on what he shows us," said Pauling.
"He's come back in a lot sharper, bigger, stronger and more of a man."
Should all go to plan, Newbury's Grade One Novices' Hurdle on December 29 is an early big race target.
Drumacoo
Highly promising in Ireland for previous trainer Michel Hourigan, the six-year-old has been sent to the Cotswolds by owner Lucy Birley.
With a rating of 139 thanks to maiden and novice hurdle wins on the back of a National Hunt Flat race success, the son of Oscar is very much a Saturday horse to look forward to.
"He had a nasty hairline fracture of the knee which is why he hasn't run since November," said Pauling.
"He's a serious horse. I know his jumping is top class and he seems very well cantering away.
"Barry Geraghty rode him on both his hurdles starts. We spoke about the horse and I know he likes him a lot."
Cheltenham Festival third in the Martin Pipe Conditional Jockeys' Handicap Hurdle, Roi Des Francs, was one of his victims.
Soft ground mid-winter novice chases await.
Le Breuil
Purchased privately from the Costellos in Ireland, renowned for sourcing quality horses, this son of Law Society is unraced but showing plenty of promise on the Gloucestershire gallops.
"He didn't cost telephone numbers, a middling price for a store horse," said Pauling, who made the scoop on advice of Best Mate's former trainer Henrietta Knight, a relative of his assistant Mary Vestey.
"We looked at about 12 horses and bought a couple. This is a three-year-old and nine winners have come out of the dam Anzille.
"Le Breuil seems to know his job because he spent four months cantering at the Costellos'. He's a very proud horse, active, jig-joggy and short-coupled.
"He looks a lot like some of the smart juveniles we bought at Henderson's from France and I think he might fly against his age group over hurdles."
But first Pauling plans to take in a bumper in mid-November.
