2013 Arkle Chase

I met Ian Feruson briefly at Cheltenham last week - he had Simonsig before Nicky - said he would like to see him in King George next year. Said he needs to settle but should get a trip. I don't know if we will see Simonsig vs Sprinter. From Arkle you would expect Baily Green but he could go to Ryanair. Overturn could show on good ground. Alderwood is another possibility ... can't have many other options but this race now either. From Jewson would have thought benefficient will be back for Ryanair over same course and distance but that Captain Conan could show up here not withstanding Geraghtys comments that he expects him to be stronger next year. Small field anyway.

Not really a lot to say here, as after his Champion Chase romp Nicky Henderson's Sprinter Sacre has raised the bar in this division once again and he looks set to dominate this race for many a year. He's still only 7 years-old so fingers crossed he can stay injury-free then he really could rack up at least three more victories in Wednesday's feature contest - while don't forget Moscow Flyer was aged 11 when he took the honours back in 2005.

True, Arkle winner, Simonsig, might have something to say about that, not to mention Barry and Nicky having some tricky decisions to make next term, but, that said, you can't see Barry deserting Sprinter Sacre should the pair meet. We all know the previous year's Arkle winners often do well in the Champion Chase and it'll be nice to see some opposition to the current champion, but you feel the situation might force Nicky to step Simonsig up in trip next season - don't forget he was an impressive winner of the Neptune last season over further.

Whatever happens on that front there will still be plenty of people looking at the 1/2 on offer about Sprinter Sacre following up as value - being a year away it obviously comes with its risks, not to mention having your cash tied up for a lengthy amount of time.

With the Tingle Creek and Victor Chandler combined worth about the same as the King George it comes as no surprise Nicky henderson has decided to bypass the step up in trip with Sprinter Sacre.

As far as Sprinter Sacre V Simonsig goes the chances of that taking place in the QMCC are between nil and zero.

I fully expect Sprinter Sacre to start around 1/10 and nothing else of note to turn up on the day.

His performance last season is right up there with that of Arkle's and if this was 1966 he'd be rated up there with the great horse. He is without a shadow of a doubt that good.

I suppose they wont have many alternatives for Kid Cassidy now ? I suppose McCoy could ride Captain Conan but no other obvious ride in the race. Obviously runs well around Cheltenham and think 25s ew not a bad bet. Sir De Grugy's jumping looked a bit ropey at times to my eye.

Sir De Grugy showed a nice turn of foot yesterday but hard to envisage him getting anywhere near sprinter. Might not even run in it. think Moores are straight enough and can take this quote at face value.

"He won't necessarily go to Cheltenham as I think he needs a more conventional track. For some people it's the be all and end all, but not for me. I'd like to take him to France at some stage."

Not sure where they can go with Captain Conan. Cant dodge both Sprinter and Simon ? Somersby not one i could back around Cheltenham. Must be value somewhere in without sprinter market.

Arvika heading that way ?

Skybet have gone out to 5/4 about Sprinter - ladbrokes 4/6.

Sprinter now 60:40 to run according to NJH

Benifficent for this race or the Ryanair? He will have a decent chance for either wherever he turns up

Yep. Seems to be an under the radar horse. Wonder how important Cooper is though ?

2013 Jewson Chase ( keep an eye out for Marito)

Yeah and Martin only wants to win the big ones with him!! Surely Cooper would be on him regardless of what race unless he picks up the retained jockey tag on Gigginstown and they send one. They don't have any top 2 milers but I suppose in the Ryanair he might get snagged for First Lieutenant if they go down that road. However Mullins doesn't really have a 2.5 mile chaser and Ruby would be snapped up then if that was the case.

Could be on to something Skippy ..they would probably get Cooper for Champion Chase but Roi Du Mee or First L might be running for Giggy in Ryanair. Would have thought one or Arvika or Marito will run in Ryanair so dont think they will get Ruby if they go that way.

Twinlight Mullins horse for this ?

Yeah probably. He has flown under the radar a bit so far but he seems to be a decent sort. Do you think Mullins will send Arvika to Cheltenham again after his flop lasy year and his obvious preference for right handed tracks? It's a pity that Sandown's chase is now a grade 1 as he could have been waiting in the long grass for who ever won the Champion to take on in Punchestown.
