I didnt know if there was a thread on this (I didnt find one anyway) but interesting to see that Martin sends Golantilla back for this. Must have a decent chance in that case? He might have experienced a setback initially that he didnt go over hurdles but still if he improves he will go close.

That said Mullins top performer (Shaneshill or Black Herculeus) will be decent and I always love the whispers and tips that come about before this race, everyone has an idea of the winner!
 
in his recent stable thing nicholls has done for betfair he mentions As de mee for the champion bumper..think he has entered him in a decent bumper this weekend, massive horse too looks a real chaser in the making.
 
Agree with yeehaa that the flat men will have their day here soon. Has OBrien anything this year ? Joseph would surely like a Cheltenham winner on his resume..

Must keep a eye out for Nicholls horse ...

It has a poor prize fund but I think a lot of them make money out of it :p

Colman Sweeney was looking for a ride. At Bolgers now so I suppose Nina might get the call ?
 
Graham Wylie is particularly excited by his two entries for the Weatherbys Champion Bumper as he looks forward to next month's Cheltenham Festival.
Shaneshill and Black Hercules, both trained by Willie Mullins, are unbeaten and have earned the right to carry the colours of Wylie and his wife, Andrea. The owner believes it is difficult to choose between the pair, but they both they have different ground preferences.
"I'm looking forward to my bumper horses Shaneshill and Black Hercules. I think Black Hercules would prefer much softer ground than Shaneshill," he told At The Races.
"Shaneshill does seem to have a good turn of speed towards the end of the race. I think it will be very ground dependant. If it comes up fairly soft, then I think Black Hercules would have a good chance.
"Shaneshill has run on soft ground as well, but we think he's better on better ground. It will be a difficult decision for the jockey to choose.
"I'm just happy I've got two with very good chances and will look forward to the race."
It is not clear cut at this stage which races Felix Yonger and Briar Hill, also trained by Mullins, will go for at Cheltenham.
"(For) Felix Yonger it's a question of which race he goes into. I know there's a big debate going on about whether it's the Arkle or the Jewson," he said.
"I think we should wait and see what the ground is like and what the other entries are like nearer the time.
"I'm excited about Briar Hill. Again we're not sure what race he'll go in. He's entered in all three novice hurdles at Cheltenham. Willie knows all his horses very well and knows what shape they are in. I'm sure he'll pick the right race."

Looking forward to this years race. Don't think the key is necessarily backing Mullins and moreso backing a stoutly bred type. Just draw a line through any horse you could see lining up in next years Supreme as race will be run way too quick with best stayer almost certain to win. Lots of the winners haven't been slow but they've all went on to stay longer trips. Dunguib is probably the sole 'natural 2miler' of the last decade (Cue card and CF maybe at a push also) and his run was freakishly good on the day with 3 stayers in behind. If you can back a future Mullins stayer, then all the better. Black Hercules looks that.

2003: Liberman - Stayer

2004: Total Enjoyment - Didn't race much after but probably would have made a stayer.

2005: Missed That - Stayer

2006: Hairy Molly - Stayer

2007: Cork All Star - Stayer

2008: Cousin Vinny - Had a turn of foot but stayed further.

2009: Dunguib - an exception to the rule. Pacy and simply outclassed stayers in Some Present, Rite of Passage and Quel Esprit.

2010: Cue Card - Obviously a class horse but stays well...to a point.

2011: Cheltenian - Stayer

2012: Champagne Fever - Despite winning a Supreme, staying won it for him. Stayer.

2013: Briar Hill - Stayer.
 
Marc Huglin, owner of the Philip Fenton-trained Value At Risk, has expressed his support for the British Horseracing Authority’s plan to test the Fenton-trained horses entered for Cheltenham.

Value At Risk (pictured) is a leading contender for the Grade 1 Weatherbys Champion Bumper following wins at Fairyhouse and Leopardstown in December, and the owner is keen to let the horse take his chance.

In a statement issued to The Irish Field on Tuesday, Huglin said: “My horse, Value At Risk, in training with Philip Fenton, has been entered in the Weatherbys Champion Bumper at Cheltenham, and is an intended runner.


"I have been in close contact with the Turf Club and BHA during the past week, both of whom have been very helpful under difficult circumstances.

"I wholeheartedly support the comments made by Paul Bittar yesterday in relation to the integrity of the sport, and I am more than happy to support whatever tests or actions either regulator wish to take in addition to the routine tests that have been done following both of the horse's wins.

"I have never been anything less than delighted with the way that Philip has trained Value At Risk since he arrived at the yard in June 2012, fully six months after the alleged incident for which he has been charged took place. I also have no reason to believe that he has been trained other than in accordance with all applicable rules.

"Given these circumstances and the basic principle of innocence until proven guilty, and that the sport's regulators allow it, I would like my horse to take his chance at Cheltenham."
