Champion Hurdle 2027

It's a difficult race for them to price. He's not good enough to win on all known form, but he's a guaranteed runner in what will likely be a small field.

I wouldn't want to be laying 20s each way.
Agree it's difficult and 20-1 ew as the market rivals currently stand I would agree.
Doubt the market rivals will be the same come March though.
Funnily enough for his price to be value he needs Lossiemouth to maintain her form and others to be absent.
Or he improves massively in his next race or two.
If she's not there then I reckon he'll have different rivals.

If she goes off odds on and Brighterdaysahead, New Lion turn up and potentially one of the novice's from last season then he goes off 20-1 plus IMO. A lot obviously depends on how he fares against these types in the grade 1's of course.

Thought that was mad a nice race from runner up, was quite slick over the hurdles. Not sure where the horse fits in, obviously not CH class, but might have a nice race to win at some point

She was slick.
Looks a county horse to me.
If they can keep her mark around the 140 mark then she'll be a player.

Alexei was kept up to his work for a four-length success over the Irish raider and saw his odds for the Champion Hurdle shortened to 12-1 from 20s by Paddy Power.

Tizzard said: “That was smashing and a lovely reappearance, you couldn’t ask for much more really.

“I thought he was a bit sleepy for the first half of the race but then came alive and got the job done well giving plenty of weight to a good mare.

“He looked to have Gordon’s mare covered and I think a better run race will suit us better as he’s a good traveller through a race.

“I couldn’t have wished for a nicer start and I think he’ll improve no end physically for that run and I think it will really sharpen him up.”

Alexei will now head to Newcastle at the end of the month for the Fighting Fifth, with the Venn Farm handler charting a path back to the Festival in March for another crack at the opening day feature.

Tizzard added: “We’ve got three weeks now until the Fighting Fifth and then after that we’ll go to the Christmas Hurdle. We’re going to treat him as a Champion Hurdle horse.

“He ran well in the race last year and going back there is what we want to do. We’ve said that throughout the summer and he only needs a little bit of progression and he is right in the mix.”

Alexei would have finished a clear second last year if it wasn't for the mistake at the last. Has a great chance 👍🏻

An OK start. Don't think Aintree suits him as much as Cheltenham but job done.

Happy that Gordon said afterwards that Mange Tout will be heading down the Mares Hurdle route as well.

Alexei still 18/1 in Hills Road to Cheltenham market for any poor soul that hasn't backed him yet.....

3rd I reckon but he'd definitely have finished closer to the Queen as it was a significant blunder. Basically landed on 2 front legs with his belly almost dragging the deck. Did well to stay up .

He's around the same price on the exchange, to be fair to Hills. Not that I'd be rushing to back it.

Yep. Cant really offer any more for the current 3rd Fav in the race. Likely to be a very small field and obviously anything can happen to Lossy as it can to any horse. Leau Du Sud out for season today to confirm that point.

The Champion Hurdle really needs something to come out of the woodwork. Even at this early stage it is looking a shocking renewal. I just can't have Lossiemouth rocking up again as an 8YO and winning. It would be an awful reflection on the division. Maybe Narciso Has can improve the record of 5YOs? Looking at the betting this evening it is just depressing. Mydaddypaddy 2nd fav at 6/1 jeeeeeeez. OR 153.

I like Alexei but don't think he's a Champion Hurdle contender unless a couple falter.

I don't necessarily agree that he finishes 2nd if he didn't make the mistake.

I had 1pt on the 25's WTAF, purely as a saver as I think he'll still turn up in the race but IF the top 4 all turned up again I could see him not hitting the frame again.

On another note, having just watched the replay of last seasons race, Anzadam stayed on really well in the Champion Hurdle, and if they let him have his way over fences he could be very hard to peg back.

We are still waiting on whether Narciso Has or Saratoga stay Hurdling or maybe both? Perhaps one of those can add some sparkle to what is currently a 1 horse race.

I don't understand why Lossiemouth winning as an 8YO would be an awful reflection on the division. Was winning as a 7yo ok?

Any horse winning the race rated around 160 is imo a poor reflection on the division, but that’s where we are and why horses like Alexei are amongst the contenders.
Agree re the age point though…..7or 8 ??

Something that pricked my ears during Willies stable tour was that he was undecided on Narciso Has but Proactif was going chasing and had done really well in schooling. Both JP so it seems like it would be between those two if any are to be split. There isn't really anything anywhere else unless he really is going to bin off the stayers with The New Lion and rely on Impose Toi/Honesty Policy
