Couple questions about in shop ante post betting if anyone has the answers. As years go by and my stakes keep increasing, I have to spread around a single bet in different places in order to get on the equivalent of what is one point for myself, so I'm going to be betting in shop a bit more than usual.

One question I have is what liability do they usually accept at the terminals? For example, let's say when handicap entries are released for cheltenham and are nrnb a couple weeks beforehand, and you walk into a hills shop to bet on something at a terminal, what can people usually get on? I can normally get on a few hundred on my hills account but don't know if you could do that at a terminal.

And once the max stake is accepted at a terminal, can you just walk to a different terminal and put more on that one or no? Or if you put the max stake on a terminal can you then also write out a slip and bring it to the counter or can they tell you've already backed it on the terminal?

Or can I simply put the max stake on at a terminal, leave, and then return a few hours later to put on the max stake again? This is the least preferred option obviously in case price moves.

Also, just in general when ante post betting on cheltenham regardless of whether it's during nrnb or earlier, what would you say is a safe liability to try and get on at the counter that never results in any questions? If I'm trying to bet a 20/1 horse in the stayers hurdle let's say, can you get generally get on 50 quid absolutely no issues? Or more than that?

Any answers to any of those be appreciated.

Different companies have different rules and liabilities. Entain (ladbrokes and coral) accept ante post on the terminals and over the counter, whereas william hill will just direct you to the terminals. They also seem to monitor their terminals a lot closer for multiple same bets being placed etc and will soon shut it down and get your picture (most terminals there have cameras). The obvious thing is not to get flagged up so would involve splitting stake and multiple shops and/or visits. Unfortunately these days if you are trying to get good money on then you will have to accept shorter odds at times and need to factor that into your betting. £50 a time shouldn't cause too much issue, though multiple bets placed in an hour on the same horse would soon be flagged up i suspect.

The other good bit of advice i was given was to be friendly. Be polite, have a chat with staff, make yourself known in a positive way. Enough so if staff are asked about you they can give some details without knowing too much. If you walk in with hood up, straight to a machine, put bet on then walk out without saying anything then observant staff will be suspicious. Apparently, another sign is looking at your phone constantly. This can look like you are getting tips or checking exchanges. William Hill, i have found especially, fear arbers.

Worth noting he's actually entered in The St James Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot so the match up could happen there. Also in the Irish 2000G. I'd be tempted by the 16/1 for the Eclipse. That would look a perfect fit.
Hope some may have followed suit !!

So it was you Lobos I have to thank! 16/1 looked very good yesterday. Thanks
Fabulous. Glad someone else had a go. Nice ammo for Cheltenham next March !

Exact sort of info I was looking for, thank you.

Happy to know the terminals at least accept something decent per visit on ante post, i thought it might be something silly like a tenner or something and I'd have to keep going to the counter every time. The paddy power terminals I've checked dont have ante at all, boylesports the only other ones I still have to check out.

Wouldn't be a great lover of small talk but I suppose I can spare a minute to discuss the weather forecast if theres something in it for me 🤣

Just bought mine and Mrs Somers tickets for the 2 day Newbury meeting (27th,28th, Nov) Not done this meeting before. And now hotel booked for 3 nights from Thursday.

I like Newbury , and I like that meeting .
Been a few times .
Usually stay at the Chequers Hotel.
Pubs bars and restaurants nearby , including the Hotel Bar.
Only problem we had , was getting a Taxi back from the Racecourse. , had to wait over an hour.. so last couple of times , we drove to the Racecourse and then to the Hotel afterwards . 👍.

Just place the cash bet on the machine. No question. There is a camera, and if you place multiple bets with a similar theme, I would suggest placing a fat thumb over the camera
