Many thanks to @Quevega for progressing the March wager and suggesting a steer for consideration going forward.

Delighted @Hurricane fly has agreed to facilitate the April Yankee and we have @ComplyOrDie lined up for May. Quite a few suggestions and a bit of value in the ‘prices on offer’ thread, be interesting what approach HF takes.

Plenty of time to discuss selections and we also have the benefit of two major festivals at Aintree (9th - 11th April), Punchestown (starts 28th April). Punchestown entries might be informative to next years targets as might trainers comments.

…..please let’s know if you’re happy to take a turn at being Captain, it’ll be good to box off a few months in advance.

What about looking at horses that missed this years festival but where well fancied early season?
Few i have are:
1. Windbeneathmywings - Supreme
2. Gameofinches - BANC
3. Jasmin de Vaux - Stayers

Im prepared to be shot down in flames however

Horses like that often make missing the festival a habit

I'd try to avoid them as so many of them never come back and 1 non runner knocks out 7 bets on a yankee.

That said, i do like JDV🤣

Does anyone have any info Gameofinches?
Don't think it has ran at all this season?

One rule I try to stick to is that horses who miss a season never come back the same. Minor injuries is a different kettle of fish.

Horses that missed for a decent reason and/or were unlucky losers are usually the value for the moment in my opinion but open to all suggestions.

Any bumper horses miss the festival who would be of interest?

Since hes a 7yo im assuming this isnt his first injury
Can’t remember it being announced but he surely had a setback.

The details of that would be fairly vital.

If it was minor & connections decided to keep him back with having Final Demand in the hot seat this season in the same division 66/1 would look value.

Oh My Word is the obvious one? I'm not sure there was ever official word from the trainer why he mever made it to the festival? Think there was a post on here saying the rumour was he'd got a suspensory injury. Wouldn't have a clue if thats classed as a minor injury...

His 14th December win was one of the most visually impressive bumper runs of the season. Absolutely scooted clear when O'Connor pressed the button didn't he. The 2nds from both his bumpers wins have both won in the last week or so. Will definitely be looking to get him onside when there's some kind of indication of plans.

….i do think the steer from @Quevega about basing these bets on a pool of horses is worthy of consideration. It leaves the option of perming the pool or using one or two and topping up with a few carrying a little more risk.

One I’ll suggest in the latter category is Spinningayarn 40-1 BANC. Highlighted on a few preview nights as one for the AB suggested he’s well thought of in the Elliott yard, he met trouble in running but did all his best work late, staying on up the hill for 5th.

I notice in his pre-festival Stable Tour, Elliott said he couldn’t wait to go chasing with him next season so I’d be quite certain that’s the plan. He was also Elliott’s highest finisher in the AB so staying division looks likely. He was bigger than 40s so has been nibbled at in the past few weeks.

Be interesting if he makes another appearance or is put away for next year.

Think I've backed 5 for the BANC already :ROFLMAO:

Spinningayarn is one of them (y)

Suspensorys can vary greatly based on where on the leg it is, and the severity of the injury, I'd say any horse with one is best avoided until seen again or an update on the injury is given regarding any ante post punting.
You can say "They've done a suspensory" and it's means there is just some inflamation in the area & a few weeks rest will be needed, or it can mean the tendon is shot to pieces and they're looking into stem cell therapy to fix it and the horse may not be seen for 18 months if at all, I'd say anything thats out with an injury should be left off unless someone close to the horse has told you its sound, it has been in work & all has gone well, even a small cut if mistreated can go west (Sir Gino is the best example of this recently).

One I am keen on - surprisingly as I didn't fancy at all - is Inothewayurthinking. Incredible run to finish where he did, such a dour stayer who had a terrible run until about 3 out.

Happy to be talked out of it for the Yankee, but will get on side personally

Edit: The one that matches my thoughts (for the GC) on horses that missed out would be The Big Westerner is as big as 50/1

….The Big Westerner has an entry at Fairyhouse at the end of next week. Sixmilebridge is an interesting one if running in that race, currently 33-1 Ryanair (100-1 Gold Cup). Could be informative.

Read this and my gut reaction before really thinking was "oh dear, it's an Elliott horse". Suprised me a bit once i caught myself. Do you still see being trained by Gordon as a positive after the last 2 years woeful returns? That sentiment has subconsciously seeped into my thinking it seems...

Interesting stuff, thanks @EnvoiAlien

Seems like a waiting brief on Oh My Word then.
