The race time was comparable to the County Hurdle and you’d struggle to find stronger 2m handicap hurdle form than Wilful’s this season. The trio of Alexei, Wilful and Hot Fuss keep upholding their connected form. Wilful is borderline Champion Hurdle class and Alexei would have comfortably...

Too early to say. On a line through Selma he’s not that far ahead. When he met her he’d already had two runs whereas she was first time out edit for Mullins.

Lovely run from Minella Study. The winner was a stronger stayer on the ground. I think he would have got second without the interference and without Ryan Mania allowing Skelton an easy run up the rail. Basic stuff.

The watering of the New Course followed by 12mm of rain must be a downer for small trainer Adam Nicol and Minella Study as he’s a good ground horse and any of the first three days would have been ideal. Soft ground has diminished my confidence. I think he has the class to cope with it so I’m not...

He obviously thinks he’s bigger than the game. If he throws his toys out the pram and doesn’t bring his horses over then fine. Cheltenham shouldn’t be run for his benefit.

    Cheltenham Hurdles

The new style hurdles are supposed to be safer. I think they are far too stiff. When the decision was made to introduce them there should have been consistency at every track. As it is, horses are able to brush through the tops or even flatten hurdles at other tracks, but when they come to...

    Weather Watch 2026

I think watering the ground was ridiculous with heavy rain forecast. I’ve seen it several time before - heavy rain on watered ground with a high water table at Cheltenham creates a muddy mess. If the rain comes as forecast Friday will be a bookies’ benefit.

Right enough, he settled much better under Cobden last time - maybe too well 😅 I don’t understand why they’re running Tutti. After Newbury PN said he’d be supplemented if the ground was soft and there is no chance of that. The horse was smoked by Celtic Dino and Alexei on good to soft at Chepstow.

If Anzadam is a difficult ride why on earth has he put his son up? Patrick couldn’t hold on to the horse at Christmas.

    2026 Champion Hurdle

I have a hunch that Lossiemouth and BDA will underperform. The Irish trial looked like a mudder with both horses plodding on at the finish. I can’t back The New Lion off his last two runs. I was confident about him winning The Fighting Fifth and was counting my winnings after Constitution Hill...

Yes and it isn’t just the sire. The dam brings at least three Derby winners - Galileo, Sir Ivor and Shirley Heights through different lines. Remarkable really. I bet Adam can’t believe his luck.

Minella Study is beautifully bred from a who’s who of racing, with familiar names like Crepello, Sir Ivor, Busted, Nureyev, Shirley Heights, Sadlers Wells, Deep Impact and Galileo. His pedigree wouldn’t have looked out of place in a Derby entry so I’m sure he’ll be suited by the anticipated...
