Bit of an outside chance - but what about the Stayers? Clearly doesn't have the speed for 2m, so if they want to keep him over hurdles for another season, that should be the logical approach?

I'd hate to think this was all for the benefit of the yard sponsors ? and we were going chasing all along

Zero chance. If he isn't a Champion Hurdler they'll want to make him a Gold Cup horse for 2020... and the Stayers is not the route for that!

Jumped like he had been schooled over fences this morning!

That aside I, personally, feel he and Sharjah did not help each other at all. Blackmore sat and waited, and benefitted from that. No turn of foot like last season, a possible lack of fitness/work. I would suspect we will see a different Samcro next time out, whether over hurdles or fences.

The betting was actually all wrong today. Like you say with fitness and weight factored in no way was he a 1/4 - 2/5 shot. Don't get me wrong I still 100% expected a win and shocked but was far far too short today.

Was he a bit big behind today ? Probably loads to work with and if he used his big stride could make the champion hurdle a test for the rest. BDA has more tactical speed and slicker jumping. Summerville Boy still overlooked.

Gordon Elliott: ""Jack did everything right. He was fit enough. It's disappointing."

Had these thoughts myself Mayo. Whilst Gordon won't admit it I am convinced there will be plenty to work on for him. The drift told the story IMO.

Certainly looked that way albeit from a small screen stream I was watching. He'll clearly come on massively for the run whatever they do with him going forward and strip much fitter but again I really really hope this makes them reconsider chasing.

Not that it means much (yet), but still money coming for him on the exchanges for the Champion Hurdle, despite that defeat!!

It's odds on that he has a problem imo. I wouldn't back him for anything after that, until his wellbeing is confirmed.

Gordy just said on ATR Morgiana would be the Plan next

Fantastic news

My 7/1 slip aside I call out ‘The Winners Enclosure’ on Twitter last week after theybput him up for JLT/RSA as an early antepost tip, so him going chasing will make me look a fool!

He also said that his horses have needed the run so far. I’d say Delta Work has proven that there.

samcro's trainer Gordon Elliott later expressed his disappointment and said “I was happy with the way he travelled and jumped and I was happy going to the second last but he had a blow and got a bit tired.

“We're not making an excuse but I think we'll see a different horse the next day. None of my horses have been away on grass this year and speaking to the handicapper, he says he ran only two or three pounds below his best so for his first run of the season, that mightn't be too bad.

“He is going to have to improve an awful lot but the plan is for the Morgiana Hurdle next.”

I think it will take an awful lot to get him over a fence judged on the words of Gordon there. Plans have been made, money is clearly down, but if we see the real Samcro in the Morgiana then it will be back to favouritism for him, and lets not forget, he still stuffed Sharjah.

I think that may have been Bedrocks 'Champion Hurdle'!

Seen some huge exaggerations on twitter.

Was it that bad a run? Ok he should be winning in theory against bedrock but it’s first time out for the season and he’s still stuffed a racefit Sharjah by 5 lengths. Take Bedrock out of the race and Samcro goes 2/1 for the CH.

I suspect bedrock has just run a career best whereas Samcro will improve a ton for the run. He just looked a little one paced but that’s to be expected if not fully racefit imo.

No panick from me. He will still win whatever race he wants at Cheltenham.
