Cheltenham Gold Cup 2018

Minella Rocco for me in this now, always saves his best for the festival and the way he stays up the hill if might bite does have a bit of a wander he won't be able to get back on top like he did with whisper. 20-1 is massive value as well especially when native river is 5-1 and he's beaten him both times they've met.
 
never known a festival with so many non-runners for various reasons.

Hang in there Scoobs I'm sure you are still in a great position on a lot of races.

Is this a normal year in terms of the number of horses dropping out in the last couple of weeks? Feel I have been a bit naive on this score. Was expecting a couple in total but not 1-2 a day

I think they were probably more spread out over the season right? Maybe we were in abnormally good position this year with more making it to the last couple of weeks than normal, and this is all part of the rebalancing? Trying to make myself feel better :) Looking forward to seeing those non-runner stats after the Festival
 
I think we've had a lot this time ... but I back a lot, so I expect it and very rare one that is 'news-worthy' misses my book.

I also remember a lot last year though too
 
I've never known of so many high profile injury withdrawals this late in the day at the festival, massive blow that the reigning champ can't defend his Gold Cup crown...I've lost my good ground option now. Will probably be Road To Respect now on decent ground and Native River if it come up soft.

I think we are all swayed by our own bets I suppose RC? Was comparing my spreadsheets for last year and this year today, and I ended up with nearly 40% non runners last year which is more than double anything I've ever had before so maybe I'm biased. But I remember Faugheen, Finians Oscar, Invitation Only being big blows! And Getabird the biggest of them all.

You are probably right about the timing though. Can't honestly remember!

Wasn't one I'd backed, but gutted for everyone here, and for us not getting to see him defend it. No one's come back since Lord Windermere have they?

I won't relax now until the tapes are up and hopefully iv got the supreme / arkle in the bag. , hopefully both, Then I could sit back and enjoy it regardless.

This is the worst iv been hit by far. Iv actually got far less runners than I usually do. And the ones have been hit have been the higher stakes ones.

I know what you mean. These next 4 days are going to be absolute torture. One more non runner could break me!
 
Im in the same camp fellas. From feeling pretty smug about my book, I'm all of a sudden on the back foot before it starts.

A good winner will put us all right. Plenty of opportunities on the first day. Fingers crossed.
 
Racing Post states Fry is apparently considering supplementing American for this & Fehilly will ride if he does.
 
My early Gold cup thoughts led me to back Yorkhill, Coney island and Sizing John, away from this I was really chuffed at how good my 8/1 on Willoughby Court was looking, not to mention my 8/1 on PP, for the 4 miler!!!!

All this and the most imprtant thing. My baby is 2 days over due. So a pretty stressful time :). I think we can all guess when he's going to come out.
 
Gutted!! What was the reason for SJ missing out?
