Thought Tiger Roll ran a lot better than bare result shows , been given sighter i reckon with one eye on March.

Gordy to beat his beloved CoC with one from his own yard? Couldn't see it haha

Just re-read Paul Ferguson book, pundit Niall Hannity mentions he wouldn’t by surprised if Tiger Roll was sent over the Xcountry route this season. He could run in it and then the National, CoC did

Won't hurt TR's handicap mark getting beaten in XC races either will it...

254/1 the double.... CoC XC / TR GN :D

Bump..... :highly_amused:

Cause of Causes blue on oddschecker..... 4/1 now best price

Must be some news on the way... seems an odd trim (albeit a small one)

I haven't looked at the full market for a little while but it looks like the rest of the firms have now got this race up. So it might just be a case of the 9/2 aligning itself with the rest of the market at 4/1?

4/1 still value though :highly_amused:

It is funny that he's gone from 10/1 briefly, to 9/1 for quite a while.... and without racing has managed to get to 4/1.

At the start of the year, at 4/1 I genuinly do think I'd have backed him.

You're theory around the price trim is much more feasible than mine though

Cause of causes has an entry a week today .... nice little pipe opener over 2m. Could come last and I'll be happy

(Early closer) at Fairyhouse Dan Moore Memorial Handicap Steeplechase (Grade A) (2m1½f)

Exactly right Kev, he's being trained for March and April and whatever happens in January is irrelevant....

A brief mention on Cause of Causes in today's RP from Elliott:

There've been no problems with him, we just planned to give him some time off and bring him back for the second half of the season. He'll start off in the Dan Moore Memorial at Fairyhouse on Sunday and then we'll begin thinking about targets for later in the Spring, Cheltenham and Aintree

Happy to hear an update and that all is well and they have just given him plenty of time. If I was to be picky i'd have liked him to have nominated the Cross Country Race in there rather than 'targets' (considering he missed out on any XC trial at the track this winter) but I still think it's extremely unlikely he would go for any other race. Like others, a clear injury free round is all I ask for him this weekend.

Now I'm in fear. COC gotta go X country or I will be wounded and dare I say not the only one

perhaps they just want to give him a spin to help keep his mind on the Cross Country Job at Cheltenham. !!:triumphant:

There's been enough mentions of the Cross Country since his win last March for me to think this is still very much plan A, plus add in Elliott's quote about going for the race you're most likely to win... But yes it did get me slightly nervous at least for a few moments. He's right up there with Buveur D'Air as being pivotal for my antepost so it would be a crushing blow and put my on the back foot that's for sure :sorrow:

He's rated 150 at the moment, that won't go down...his options would be:

Ultima
Cross Country
Gold Cup

Scrap the Gold Cup, that won't happen. The Ultima is still achievable (a race I know myself and many backed him for antepost last year) off that mark for him (UTPT won last year off 155) but it

To me it depends how they view the seasons goal...if it's either

A. Another crack at the Grand National
B. Best chance of going for a 4th win at the festival / wanting to rack up a few consecutive wins in the XC

Then the XC makes perfect sense after how last season played out (not that the Ultima is a bad prep at all for the National). The only 2 scenerios where I could see why they would go elsewhere are:

C. They want to win a 4th different festival race at the MAIN aim of the season.
D. Him missing the XC course trials are too much of a setback.

I cannot see the last option, he won round there and they can school him over there beforehand once again (can anyone remember the weekend they did this last year - might be worth remembering that and keeping an eye on twitter etc for any mention of them doing it again).

So yeah it would only be if they wanted to get that 4th different festival win. I'd have every confidence he could win the Ultima off 150 but such a performance could bottom the horse (see UTPT) and they'd have to not be favouring a National run if they went down that option imo.

Based on how the XC trial races have gone this season there's nothing to fear in those races. let's see what Ireland produces in the PP Hogan but it's the obvious race and just writing that out has put any slight fears at ease :)

The idea of wining 4 different races isn’t one that had entered my head but would that be a first?

You’ve had horses like bobs worth and Vautour win 3 but has anyone won 4 different races before?

I don't think that will be a great concern to them. They want winners and the cross country is his best chance on last years run and the form of the others so far this year. It will also be an easier race on the horse than the ultima therefore leaving more in the tank for the National.

I would also add that they referred to Cheltenham and aintree - they won't be looking at any race other the National so I think it's just a turn of phrase rather than any real deliberations being had.

If he doesn't go here I'm screwed - he's in every multiple I have! And I have almost only been putting multiples on since April!

Earlier in the season Elliott said the XC is the aim .... and although those aren't his words.... starting in a 2m race, then taking in the cross country, won't do anything negative for his Chase mark if they do fancy the GN again.

With 4 weeks inbetween, and the fact he came 2nd after winning the XC last year, I don't expect they'll change it.

Not listed anywhere for the Ultima yet either...

Hopefully making a mountain out of a molehill jono....
