Arkle 2018

Sceau royal a cracking price imo ew for this at 9/1 to be fair. Had a decent ew bet for this knowing I have both footpad and sceau royal very well covered if the unlikely was to happen and they were split up with one going jlt

Real mess this race now trying to work it out, could be another ‘western warhorse arkle’. My very first bet for the Arkle this year was Melon, get him sent over fences I say if Faugheen continues to shine

Looks pretty simple to work out.
Footpad
Sceau royal
Petit mouchoir
Northill Harvey
Brainpower

50/1 bar.

I'm going to put it out there and say no English trained runner will win it IF both Footpad & Petit Mouchoir turn up. They keep beating each other which to me shows no stand out. The Irish horses have a higher level of hurdles form too.

Without me checking, wasn't Sceau Royal giving 6lbs to NHH when he got beat?

I'd say SR has done enough to make himself the 'stand out' british contender....

Youd could argue though that NHH is better suited to Cheltenham... given his record.... prefers better ground too? I Wouldn't rule him out on his run today?

Cod.
That will do me if thats the case but I still wouldn't discount the other 3 possible winners and especially from an ew perspective.
My ideal scenario would be
Footpad/ petit mouchoir.
Sceau royal placed.

They still all have to make it there too. So happy to have a book.

N.a. I wouldn't rule out SR NHH what so ever. Both ran a cracker. Brain power only his 2nd start over fences I wouldn't like to rule him out completely either.

You could say that NHH shouldn't have been pushed out what so ever and is a good ew bet at 20s. Footpad still has to win his graded race at Christmas allbeit very likely. and pm still has to get back and will have had a light prep.

I'm close to going back in on NHH ew

Scoobs,
I think thats a very wise choice. Ive taken some ew as well with my winnings from laying FO

Praying we see a demolition job from footpad on his next outing! Cant see past him or PM personally, a long time still between now and Cheltenham though.. What race Footpad going to be aimed at for Christmas?

Yeah I can see that. Would be closer back at Cheltenham.

I'm never a fan of a horse shortening while stood in its box. Shortening Footpad based on today is horrible from bookies really... albeit you can see the reasoning... it shouldn't be that way!

Racing post novice chase.
Same race. Min douvan.... won

Got the top two in the market covered, but I wouldn’t be totally convinced the winner comes from that lot. Think we’ll see plenty of switching targets between now and March

Not convinced Footpad is a definite for the Arkle after that showing from Sceau Royal. With the threat of Finians Oscar no longer present, Death Duty not being the fastest of horses, and with Willoughby Court unlikely to scare away any opposition, the JLT looks wide open for him.

Of course a lot of this depends on how well he and Sceau Royal perform between now and then, if Sceau Royal can build on that performance then every chance we see them split up I think. They tried to make a 3 miler out of Footpad over hurdles, so he looks the one more likely to step up if that is the case. Having said that, if Willie wants to run Footpad in the Arkle then he's running in the Arkle.

I hope Footpad goes for the Arkle, would a bigger hit to me than Annamix, but I've had a couple of pts on at 14/1 for the JLT just in case.

Really want to smash into Petit Mouchoir at 12/1! Just can't bring myself to do it considering he won't be back until the Irish Arkle in Feb. Won't need much to go wrong to miss everything. But will surely be fav if he comes back fit and well.

Anthony Bromley, racing manager to Munir and Souede, said: "We have history before of running two in a Cheltenham race. If they both keep going as they have been up to now we couldn't keep them apart because we're talking about the Arkle."
