RSA Chase 2018

Another solid round of jumping from Death Duty there, still think this is well within his grasp, possibly too short a trip today but done it well.

Hes not slow... he could be JLT bound. I really liked that display.

Its the JLT for sure...

Death Duty - my first ante post bet for 2018 (made in January 2017:highly_amused:) looks DEAD to me. I am chalking it up as a non runner :p

I am taking some salvastion in the fact that I was on at 14/1 and he was available for the RSA at 20s and bigger after Cheltenham, so it was a dreadful bet anyway :triumphant:

I posted on page 3 that I was struggling a bit in this race and - I am actually struggling to see runners in this no still. Bar Bacardys (16s) and Monalee (16s),

Certainly wouldn't be sure of Yanworth at the stage, and at the price can easily overlook at an ante post selection.

Death Duty, Finian's Oscar, both likely to be over shorter now IMO (JLT) - Willoughby Court has that race pencilled in too according to the trainer, so wouldn't part with any cash for this race.

Sutton Place (no idea of the trip - BG said he could go over any distance), so with all 3 an option I wouldn't consider it....

I have made a little case suggesting Bacardys could end up in the 4 miler, but it was speculative then, and looking at the Mullins chasers I'd be hard pushed to see what would need to fall in to place to give Ruby a better chance of a winner (which someone did bring up!)... and he looks like from the comments today from Willie, to be one they're fairly excited by:

He’s in good order and the plan is to go novice chasing with him. I think he is probably more a stayer in the making. We have always thought a lot of him and he didn’t surprise us with how well he did last season.

I'd perhaps debate that last sentance based on jockey bookings over the year, but even so, he was impressive and I can't recall a race where he wasn't doing his best work late on?

I thought Monalee would need to improve as a chaser to mix it this season so wanted to see him run.... and 12s ANY RACE Bacardys is still probably a better bet than 16s for this rac,e even though I now see this as a much more likely target than ever before.

I'll quickly add that some have said Finian's Oscar might end up in the RSA (Kevin Blake being one) but I just can't see it this season under Tizzard (with Potts)... despite it being a better suited race to win perhaps.

Then you're at 25/1 plus.

Topofthegame is interesting at 25/1 and I did have 0.5 pts each way on Presenting Percy but fully appreciate his sights may be a little lower than this.

Based on "One Jump Ahead" and a bit of guesswork, Jerrysback would interest me too, but33/1 hasn't lured me in to take a punt just yet.

Anyone else got any further clues in to this race yet?

The only saving grace for me if Death Duty does go JLT is they surely won't pitch Petit Mouchoir in against him, which means the Arkle is almost nailed on as his race should he make it to the festival.

Other than that I have backed Death Duty in a couple of bets for this race, so they will be immediate losers.

I've only had two ante post bets this year and they were both hopeful multiples. I have Monalee in one and Topofthegame in the other as I think they'll far exceed their Hurdle performances of last season now chasing. They should also be pretty sure to go for this race if the stay in one piece and prove good enough.

Bacardys would be the one to interest me here. Think I've mentioned it previously.

But with 16-1 widely available, I'll be waiting until I see an entry....

Something I've just noticed about Death Duty's form too, and for some it may not bother, but it does me, his 2 runs with Good in the description under rules have both ended in defeat, pretty much all of his soft/heavy ground wins have been, on the most part, pretty impressive, but we rarely see soft/heavy for the festival.

Apologies if someone else had already noted this but on my phone and quite frankly couldn't be bothered to go through the whole thread with a poor connection currently :p

Just watched the race back again, he ballooned a few and ran down a couple but he has a decent engine. Tizzard certainly doesn't speak of him in the same light as Thistlecrack but he may prove competitive.

Thought west approach was impressive yesterday. As it stands at this moment it's Monalee that I like a lot in this.

I can't remember the exact wording but Gordon Elliott was asked in his Racing Post stable tour which horse he'd like to train from another yard - it was Monalee.

looks a very good horse indeed. And pretty much targeted for this race. 16/1 could be cracking value

From Nicky Henderson . re - jono page 44 A/post bets .
" Whereas Constantine bay just looks perfect for Staying chasing .
I felt sorry for him at the Festival, running a great race in the A.Bartlett hdle when being brought to a
standstill at the second last .
Even though i don't think he would have won , i think he would have been second.
And you have to Love the way he was powering up the hill that day when some horses
would have given up ." - Constantine bay at 25 -1 . for the R.s.a .

I think Constantine bay may well go for Nat Hunt chase

He's one of my two preseason shortlist horses for this race along with Topofthegame

At this moment I am Monalee only from a betting point of view, but Bacardys also on list.

Bacardys ran in the Deloitte, Neptune and then the 2m 4f Punchestown festival race. That leaves me in doubt as to which race he may end up in at the Festival as he's got the speed for shorter trips too.

True but at this moment, with it being guess work, I'm taking at stab at the RSA. So will probably go another race haha
