Epsom Derby 2017

Politics Mr M, very little to do with musical talent...

Agree with that Ista, just a shame i didn't have a tenner on some random aussie dropping his dacks on stage !.L.O.L.

Churchill weak today ...what have I missed ?

Not sure about churchill mayo , but they just said on itv that crystal ocean doesn't run in the derby ,

I would disagree there - the main issue is the UK doesn't take it seriously and sends proper dross. Other countries send actual pop stars - their neighbours vote for them because they've heard of them. Year after year Russia are pilloried politically but put effort in on the song and get votes.

Back in 2011, the UK entered Blue. They did a ok song, but they did a huge European tour, performed at all the eurovision events around the continent, came 11th overall but 5th in the televote (the judges hated it haha), and 3rd in the OGAE (the hardcore EV fan club) vote. Seemingly UK decided not to build on that and went back to sending gutrot, compared to Sweden who send huge pop bangers every year and have an amazing recent record

Looks like Dubai Thunder will be lining up, anyone give this one a squeek ?

He was brilliant on debut but I'm not sure I could back a horse to win the Derby after just one run. That said, something has to win it and I don't particularly fancy anything at the moment. Best Solution is top of my shortlist now, having already backed several non runners in the race.

I always have the nagging doubt that impressive Godolphin newcomers don't back up ... I don't know why that would be.

Pretty uninspiring Derby really... I have Yucatan at 25 and Cliffs of Moher at 8s and that'll be all I have. Not got a strong opinion on either winning, I just expected them to shorten!

Not sure if you know but Yucatan's not running Kev

I've backed 3 non runners so far, including Yucatan so have decided to wait until day of race market before I get involved again.

Oh no I hadn't seen! Disappointing as I'd seen him clipped in to 14s...

Galileo has it in the bag with one of the others no doubt haha

I did some research on the race last week and unless I've got it wrong Godolphin have never won the race ?
Staggering when you think of the riches they have, and the fact they've won so many other races at the Epsom festival....

You're absolutely right Ista...

Found this from 2016

The Sheikh looking to play the Godolphin Blues

Sheikh Mohammed's vast Godolphin racing and thoroughbred breeding network has won the Derby twice, but never yet with the jockey wearing the distinctive silks that have seen the global, Dubai-based operation dubbed 'The Boys in Blue'.

Both Lammtarra (1995) and New Approach (2008) ran in the colours of other members of the Sheikh's family, and how he'd relish the opportunity to remedy that situation. This is perhaps the year for it to be done as two live chances are aimed at the Classic, historically known as the 'Blue Riband'.

Let's have your Oaks/Derby doubles:

Rhododendron and Best Solution for me.

Oaks/ Derby double - Enable / Permian.

There are some key trends on the Derby, the draw is vital and you need to be drawn middle (3-10).
Age is also a massive one, and before you think I've gone made the 3yo race is a brutal test of speed and stamina, horses foaled in May just don't win and the more recent trends support 7 April as being the cut off point which suggest Best Solution, Cracksman, Permian and Salouen can't win.

I'm already fairly deep on Dubai Thunder and Benbatl but the draw was horrific for me, I've therefore had a few quid on Venice Beach and may well be pressing that one tomorrow....

Interesting that the first two in the Oaks were the two oldest fillies. I'm on Capri ew but I suspect he's more St Leger material.

Well i guess nobody backed the winner ?., my mate backed it, coz he's a crystal palace fan , but there were 2 eagle horses,
and guess what , he meant to back the other one !. so it was a lucky mistake .

Didn't even look at Wings of Eagles. Interesting they've priced upCracksman as fav to turn him over in the Irish Derby. WOE could improve again too.

I think the general consensus was that Cracksman lost his action and changed his legs so many times that on a different track he could be much better.

I saw Churchill was priced at 8/1 for the Eclipse, no-one expected him to stay the Derby trip but he might last 10f and if they let him take his chance 8/1 will look massive...
