2026 Ultima Handicap

what makes you say that ?
Peter Scudamore, assistant trainer, said: "We're thinking of either the staying chase at Cheltenham over three-miles-six [the National Hunt Novices' Handicap Chase] or the Midlands National on the Saturday. He'll go for one of those, god willing, depending on how the ground is.

"We used to think he wanted better ground but I think he handles most ground as long as it's not too fast."

Scudamore added: "He might have an entry in the Ultima. But if he's going to win at Cheltenham or the Midlands National he has to find some improvement again and that could be in the distance he runs over."

Thanks for that. At least we have some idea.
NRNB in the NHC it is then.

Almost like they had a rethink when plans changed for Myretown...
Possibly but doesn't sound like it. Maybe after his last 2 runs they just think he's an out and out stayer and that the Ultima pace will not suit ?

Hopefully just rambling and trying to get a better price for the ultima 😂

I think something similar might have been said last year about myretown before he went for the ultima. The syndicate are surely all on at big prices for the ultima, given he wasn't even priced up for the national hunt chase until the other day. Hopefully that sways them.

There's a bloke on here that's a part of the syndicate that might shed further light. Kick up a fuss for the sake of the forums bets! 🤣

I think this is exactly right.
Myretown wins at Haydock and gets a mark for the National he misses Cheltenham and King of Answers slots into the Ultima...

Prize money for NHC is more than Midlands National which could sway them.

You have to say though that Myretown will be going into the race with massive question marks and his chances are slim unless he can reproduce anything like his best. KOA looks better placed to run a bigger race but looks like they'll be swerving Ultima for bigger pots.

Fav over Midlands National??
I’d say so lobos 4 miles 1 is a lot for a novice that’s never ran more than 3 miles 2 furlongs , I think on soft he will take a helluva lot of beating , in fact I think he will go off favourite or nearly fav , 14’s is huge price nrnb

Do you think the thinking behind it is just to keep him and myretown separate?

Ultima is a good bit more prize money, and probably a weaker race, so seems slightly strange, especially considering they went double handed last year.

Ultima was absolute muck last year apart from myretown, irish dont really bother with it and its usually just exposed British horses mostly. Whereas nh chase last year had haiti couleurs and now is the hour who was well handicapped, and will probably have a good few unexposed irish novices who've been messing around for a low mark all season.

I think he can win either race but would have thought the Ultima will probably be easier and for more money.

Ricci im guessing here but Myretown after Saturday won’t be going for the national so will probably run in the ultima but if it came up really soft imo king of answers would run a huge race in ultima but I’m also pretty certain he will go very close In nh chase as he jumps and gallops for fun

KOA is 16/1 with Willhill NRMB, just not showing on Oddschecker. Can also boost it by 10% if you have the daily boost.

Isn't NHC worth more than Ultima in prize money??

Love it. You are mystic Meg to me now 😂😂 thought don’t love the fact I’m on for the ultima. Off to hills to cover for the NH chase tomorrow lol.
I’ll be surprised if they haven’t trimmed it by tomorrow, Hills don’t usually stay top price for long!
