With @Durham Edition posting his December selections ahead of the big Christmas holiday meetings, we might as well start the January thread.

Frightening to think we only have two more monthly Yankees before the fun starts. Delighted @SeanRock has agreed to captain the January effort, plenty of racing to discuss over the next month and maybe a more certain view regarding targets etc.

The final wager of the year will be facilitated by @Lobos in February.

Wasn't there talk of two yankees in December, one before and one after the Xmas period? Most likely the January bet will be looking at horses who will be running at the DRF and so there is nothing reactionary from the 2nd biggest period clue wise prior to the Festival. My two pennies worth anyway.

…..I suppose that’s up to @Durham Edition if he wants to put up another post-Christmas effort. I’ll ask.

I'm happy to have another go after Xmas unless someone else wants another go?

…..December is your month, Matey, manage it as you want.

Putting another up makes sense, leave it to you to manage.

…..Happy New Year everybody.

Whilst the rest of us were no doubt downing a few last night, I understand @SeanRock has been studying the form and is very keen on four for a New Years Day selection ahead of the monthly discussion with DRF in mind. Either that or he messaged me when he was pissed

Suspect he’ll post it this morning.

Whilst I wish my new years was as exciting unfortunately I was on call in work & boringly looking through markets that are slim on good things but prices that aren’t reflective.

I was gonna post it early but in hindsight I’m gonna wait until declarations for the Solerina at the end of the month. I don’t think the prices are going anywhere on my other 3 picks.

Marine Nationale 11/4
Honesty Policy 6/1
Garlic Warrior 10/1

The Bambino Fever Fairyhouse entry means I’ll be posting this one earlier than expected, the 7/2 probably won’t last long.

Hoping Radiator Springs gives her Naas form a bit of substance today at Clonmel.

Marine Nationale 9/4 Champion Chase
Bambino Fever 7/2 MNH
Honesty Policy 5/1 Stayers
Gaelic Warrior 8/1 Gold Cup

Best price 788.75/1 with B365 & WH

Prices aren’t juicy but I think they’re still value in the respective markets. Targets all look realistic bar the possibility of GW dropping in trip for the Ryanair but I’d be surprised if that happens. He’s at the age now where they should be taking a swing at the Gold Cup.

….well that’s an early one, I have to admit to putting mine on when you sent me the message on NYD so slightly glad you kept to the same selections.

I’ll update the main thread.

Not much discussion this month so I’ll leave the thread open in case we tease out a pre-DRF one, then it’ll be over to @Lobos for the February wager.

You got the value so Eggs 😅

Prices have contracted a fair bit already in the last week. Hence why I just said I’d roll with it after the Bambino declaration.

…..with it being 31st Jan - 1st Feb, if folk want to have a DRF related wager in addition to the one already posted then shout up. That would set us up nicely for the February Yankee being managed by @Lobos.

It can either be a post or pre DRF.

….Chemical Energy 16-1 (Hunters), not DRF related as Codd reckons he’s going straight to the Festival but maybe worthy of consideration if we’re putting another together later this month.

Think this thread needs a bump...

…yep, doesn’t seem much appetite for another one this month even DRF related but we’ll see.

A reminder that @Lobos is waiting in the wings to Captain the February wager, that should be entertaining

Not sure there was anything yesterday that would be automatic pick for this months yankee, a few ideas:

Joyeuse - Coral Cup
LIve Conti - County
The Reverend - Supreme
No Walkover - Bumper
Bob Olinger - Stayers

Joyeuse for the Coral cup would concern me with stable tour comments question them staying the trip.

Is this the comment you’re referring to ?

‘She put up a fantastic performance to win the Betfair Hurdle and then finished sixth to Lossiemouth in the Grade 1 Mares’ Hurdle at Cheltenham. That was her first run over two and a half miles, and we are still querying whether she got the trip. We could look to run her in novices’ chases this season’

Ignore Hendo he’s losing the plot, when he sobers up someone will remind him he entered the horse when she was runner up to Wodhooh over 2m 4.5f at Cheltenham in Dec 24, form that looks better by the day…
