General Chat

I see Young Rebel is in the sale today at Cheltenham, be interested to see who picks this one up, no doubt if Willie or Gordon gets their hands on it it'll go shorter than the current 33/1 on offer.

Anyone got the dates of entries/declarations over the Christmas period in Ireland and UK?

Found this on youtube, some very old footage for nostalgia freaks of famous cheltenham gambles.
Although randomly the Blowing Wind footage is of the imperial cup i think.
I enjoyed it anyway.

Ha ha, what are the chances. I couldn't sleep last night and this thing flashed up on my YouTube suggestions. I was on Son Of Flicka, think I caught about 33/1. One of my old mates who was dabbling a bit into racing told me of this gamble that was going on so I jumped on with no real optimism. That was my first betting festival, no ante post, 3 notable horses for me that year, Son Of Flicka, Bellvano and Hunt Ball. I had loads of winners that year and didn't know what I was looking for. Just pointing and shooting. I knew about Hunt Ball though, I knew the handicapper couldn't catch him

How in the world are we on 14th December already

Hows everyones season going so far ..... I feel like I have missed everything
Hope you're well Kev. Does that mean you've not done any AP betting? Never stopped you making a profit starting this late! Would love to read regular updates/thoughts from you.

Just for confirmation, the following was part of a recent BHA programme update.

*******

Festival Handicap Qualification

Replicating the approach in 2025, the number of qualifying runs required to compete in non-Novice or Juvenile handicaps at the Cheltenham Festival in 2026 will be higher than the General Rule covering Class 1 handicaps, which requires 4 runs over hurdles for novices to run in handicap hurdles and 3 runs over fences for novices to run in handicap steeple chases.

For the Cheltenham Festival only, the requirements are:

  • for a minimum of 5 runs over hurdles for any horse (novice or non-novice) to run in non-novice handicap hurdles
  • a minimum of 4 runs over fences for any horse (novice or non-novice) to run in non-novice handicap chases.
This will be reflected in the race conditions for Class 1 non-Novice or Juvenile Handicaps at the Cheltenham Festival.

The Novices' and Juvenile handicaps will continue to be three runs as per the regular handicapping rules and reflected in the race conditions.

Thanks all

I have done 'some' ante post stuff, but way behind where I'd normally be

I just think the prices now before the horses run have hardly any juice in them, so decided I'd prefer to watch them run and make decisions like the good old days when I started. The dedicated and funds needed and reliance on 365 for cashing out has gotten a little tedious over the past few seasons so I need a change to keep me entertained I think

I'll start a diary and start babbling in there though I guess

Do we still have the diary section, I can't see it 😅

Haha thanks, finally managed to give myself permission to get into the members area :ROFLMAO:

Whats everyone best value bet for the festival so far?
For me it has to be Jimmy de Sueil.
8/1 compared to Final Demand at 5/4 (bet 365) when there was little to separate either performance 1st run this season and JdS has course form.
