Could not agree more and is another one of my boring opinions I trot out every season :biggrin-new:
Kudasheva is another who was popular one year. She was purchased for 370k and is still a maiden over hurdles rated 113!

No idea! But too many of the point to point mares don't train on.

In the Mares Hurdle this year, Telmesomethinggirl won a PTP over 2m4 so a reduced distance and no-one else started in a PTP. The conversion rate from winning a PTP to then being a top class mare on the racecourse doesn't seem to be very high. Some of that may be that the PTP mares may be more stamina laden and not suited to the Cheltenham races.

I wouldn’t pretend to know the answer but I don’t think it’s a coincidence that most (not all) of the best mares in racing don’t originate from a point to point background.

Point to point racing is as much a commercial business as it is an education for young NH horses. And because of the financial angle, those trainers need to ensure the best return for their horses. Due to the large sums of money these days, are those horses being trained harder and harder in order to achieve the best price at the sales? I have nothing to back this up, but maybe the mares can’t handle it as much as the geldings.
