Most wide open Cheltenham for years.

Im doing an IT degree but wouldnt even know where to start with this. Share share share

Brilliant, post of the week, dinosaurs like me have no 'kin chance then !

For what it's worth, I've only lost money of Josies Orders and a Sky bet special Defi, Cantlow, Douvan and Thistlecrack all to win at 50/1 which I was starting to get excited about !
I sympathise with everyone who lose their stakes without a run which is why, if I am going to part with my hard earned, I'll only back something who is guaranteed for that target, if the horse gets injured then so be it I've done my dough, but I can't consider backing anything where a target is unconfirmed.

Let's hope WR makes up for everyone's losses.:encouragement:

I guess it wouldnt be too hard. I'll try knock one up tonight or tomorrow and try share it

I keep a spread sheet up to date daily with every bet I place. Every 12 months my friend takes all my data and puts it into a database, then I can run queries on it.

Garbage IN > Garbage OUT :)

After Cheltenham I will do an in depth anaylsis regarding my ante-post betting and whether or not it was profitable. Race-by-race, Odds taken to SP and whether I placed any bets BECAUSE of my AP bets.

Going to take me a long time, but should make for very interesting reading :encouragement:

Not sure you need to work out whether AP was profitable Kev, just the ratio of horses that actually made it to the targets you backed them in and at what price you could have backed those horses on the day.
The measure of success is not profit, if that makes sense....

I'm sure i'll come across the answers to both and analyse accordingly, but yes that would be a very useful gauge for the many years to come.

As much as the 'shorties' have done well for me over the last few years i'm quite excited to see such an open festival this year with a lot of races wide open (the only bright side to missing so many stars)...as long as Altior and Douvan do the business that is :devilish:

I think 16/1 was the biggest price last year. Will be much bigger this year!

Approx a third of my antepost bets are down looking at my spreadsheet tonight. I pray the rest make it

I'm struggling to share it. It's on my personal drive at work - and it's not easy to email it to personal accounts from my work email.

Mine has evolved over the years but it's simple to do. Just needs so relatively simple excel formulae to calculate projected winnings. Other columns can be anything you choose, e.g. ante post, sport, finishing position, Odds backed, s.p etc.

Im trying to make 1 with a selection column, e/w(yes/no), odds, stake, potential winnings and then outcome and returns. Am I over complicating it because im having difficulty with a getting the potential returns because of e/w terms

Without the stars you could argue races are more competitive and potentially just as exciting... harder to pick winners though so not sure we'll all be as jolly at the end of it :highly_amused:

You'd need some IF formulas?

Yeah trying one, stupid excel is moaning that I have too many expressions, got 2 nested IFs inside an if.

Ryan - when you are done can you post a link to what it looks like, and if you're feeling really helpful could I email you all mine so you can input them all ?
Sorry, I'm pretty useless with anything techy though I have now mastered texts...
