2017 Arkle Trophy Chase

I'm struggling to see why many are saying a defeat today for Altior could raise questions on his Arkle claims.

His momentum would be knocked slightly but stepping back into novice company at the festival and with nothing of the calibre of Fox Norton/Traffic Fluide in the race a lose wouldn't put any doubts in my mind. The only concern could be a hard race on the ground leaving its mark on the horse but even then it's hard to see what could challenger Altior come March

Altior smashed up.

Good ride Nico :devilish:

Oh wow. I am so happy. Min had no chance, shame he won't be there to get smashed to pieces.

That 9/4 will be long gone jono :) - hope you all 10 points on :encouragement:

Somehow managed to the 10 points on, along with the 15 points on the evens double. :encouragement:

Not a chance in hell Yorkhill is coming back in trip to take on Altior in this now...

Can't understand why some of the journo's are suggesting he goes for the QMCC. Why wouldn't you just enjoy winning an Arkle? Still a very prestigious race.

Hendo ruled it out straight after so they are just wasting their breath.

Glad to hear it, looks as straight forward now. Just a case of turning up and getting the luck on the day!

I picked up the 6/1 that was on offer for him to win next season's QMCC, straight after today's race. My first bet for 2018.

Where was that FM ...great bet as Douvan surely steps up next year.

Tempted to go in there with you on the 6's

Agree with Old Vic that there's a strong chance Douvan could be stepped up next year, as much as Douvan vs Altior would be one of the greatest clashes I've certainly seen (I genuinely would struggle to pick the winner)

It was with Paddy Power. They are now 5/2 unfortunately - I was calling friends to try and get more on when they cut it.

5/2 about right I think.

Well done on moving the market :highly_amused:

I had as much as they'd let me, not enough to move a market though:highly_amused:

I'd been eyeing this bet but needed to wait until I got paid to have some on and missed 6/1 now. Still I managed to get £10 on the double with Death Duty in the RSA at 80/1 which is nice

Just watched it back again. The jumping over the last 4 fences was brilliant. It looked like he could go round again the way he was absolutely tanking. A massive, massive, massive engine.

Will be going through my spread sheet tonight eyeing up all the multiples I have him in. Such a massive shame there is nothing to take him on. I think jono posted about SS being shorter for the Arkle despite having Sizing Europe to beat... I think that was because SS had won in open company but SS was 1/4 and Altior is 1/3 ... and Altior has nothing to fear at all.

Kim Bailey on twitter just re-confirmed the Arkle is still the plan for Charbel.

Pity Bet365 don't have a without Altior market.

Betfair 9/2 ew 1/5 odds on Charbel but not NRNB. Paddys 4/1 and not entirely sure whether it is NRNB or not.

Might only have to get around ...(but been here before).
