2024 Stayers Hurdle

Im a huge Theleme fan.

Winner of the big 3m Auteuil race at the end of last season beating the likes of Klassical dream, porter, Hewick, asterion and others fairly comfortably.

The plan this season is for him to come across for the festival, hes currently 16/1 and that's a huge price in my eyes.

Wow! I didn’t know that was the plan. He was one I was wondering about given the obvious form lines and his awesome performance last week. Do you have a link to quotes?

Charly Milpied replied to someone on twitter saying it was the plan (possibly bloggsy) , Im guessing he'd know/have been told as hes a french journo

Ok. I did read they were considering the stayers after Auteuil last year but it sounded like they were mulling things over then rather than planning.

12/1 Teahupoo is some of the best value left in the antepost market. Gaelic Warrior could step up & be very hard to beat but both are young enough to still have plenty of improvement in them & GW’s slight tendencies to jump right might cost him at the top table.

I’ve backed both but the price disparity between the two is just to big!

It’s not a bad price but he is reliant on the ground being softer, could say he is half to a stone better with cut.

Whoever the french expert is on Sky Sports racing also confirmed on Sat morning that connections have said that the plan is to come over for the stayers hurdle.

Rob Acheson seemed to think he wasn’t as ground dependent as people make out on the We’re Going Chasing Robcour special. He also could barely contain his excitement at how well he’s summered & filled out. He wouldn’t ordinarily be one to put his neck on the line about one of their own so it was a mention that really stood out to me.

Also he got an awful casual ride from Davy last season & I can’t see Jack having him so far off the pace in future.

He's still definitely better on soft ground though. I'd say it has to be a sub-standard race for him to win, when it actually could be one of the better renewals in recent seasons. It doesn't always play out that way though.

I was discussing with someone yesterday the need to be 100% on the day, no boiling over in the parade ring, calm on the way down, optimum conditions, and luck in running to win a G1 at the Festival. That or just be clear best like Constitution Hill or El Fabiolo.

I'd say Teahupoo needs exactly that to win. He is a bet for my book, but if I was looking for a single winner of the race this far out it wouldn't be him. Of course all those things he needs to be at his best could come right on the day though, and if so he'd be interesting.

Scrambling for some Teahupoo and Thelme prices now. Some timed that right.

Unsurprisingly.. that Gaelic news is a real stinger. Big dent to me for the season already and it hasn’t even properly started yet.

Credit to Run4Home, he called Gaelic an RSA horse before the festival last season :encouragement:

On the ATR season preview matt Chapman contacted rich ricci mid show and he said the plan was staying over hurdles

Gold old Willie

Fortunately for me I hadn't backed him because of the right handed preference

If its actually confirmed that the plan for theleme is to come across, that 20/1 / 16/1 which is available is absolutely gigantic

….a sea of blue although it looks like Sky are holding 16-1.

Always struck me as strange that an owner who's stated numerous times how much he'd love to win a gold cup would be happy to target the stayers hurdle with a horse who's built like a chaser and apparently wants 3m. I thought they must have decided that his jumping would get even worse over fences but held onto hope they'd come back around to going chasing.

Brutal for me must have him in more multi’s than I dare to check right now. Sickener

The only thing I can think is that Willie has started schooling over fences and they gave him a go and he looked a natural

Can't see why else they'd change their mind

Il have to see that to believe it though
