2023 Bumper

If Better Days Ahead wins this weekend is he remaining in bumpers or is going hurdling still the plan?

I'd imagine as a 4yo, yet to jump a hurdle and again declared in a Bumper' v the Cheltenham Bumper fav, if he wins on Sunday or goes very close then he'll only be going one way.

Both bumpers look good races this weekend. Hopefully Codd gives BDA a better ride than last time but Patrick seems fairly excited about Chapeau De Soleil. The market will be interesting beforehand.

Noted that the horse that beat BDA in his opening Bumper won his next race over Hurdles impressively albeit at short odds.

A second season bumper horse who was stuffed last season by good horses, he was 81L behind Facile Vega at Punchestown. The horse has either improved alot, or better days ahead is a boat.

I would expect Chapeau des Soleil to win by a large margin if he's going to be winning the champion Bumper.

I don't fully agree with you here. I would forgive a bumper horse their first run to a certain extent at this stage of the year. Bumper horses can improve and its is a learning curve for horses and maybe more so jockey to see how to ride a horse.
So i would not be surprised to see BDA improve a fair amount for his first run and this could be tighter than the odds suggest.

Thanks Eggs. That is a positive write up. Purchased specifically for a Cheltenham Bumper ... makes a change from, "this lads a hurdler/chaser and anything he does this year is a bonus"!

I’d also maybe interpret that as he might not be 100% tuned for his debut as well? At the same time pointing out that he will be one of, if not, their top bumper horse long term.

If he is beat I’ll certainly be going right back in as 365 will 100% overreact to it. Provided he isn’t beat half the track of course :boxing:

…Hills offer 8-1 CdS to win tomorrow & CB, 50-1 BDA.

Assemble beat Appreciate It on AI's debut after being beaten 71 lengths, 11 lengths and 15 lengths in previous bumpers.

The Better Days Ahead bumper turned into a sprint race they went so slow for most of it. We will see what he's made of if there's a sounder pace tomorrow.

Will he win? Probably not as Chapeau De Soleil seems highly thought of by Mullins and Better Days Ahead doesn't seem to be top of Elliott's bumper horses but I wouldn't be shocked to see him win.

Agreed three runner races are rarely ideal. Only six here but hopefully ran at a more genuine pace. Patrick Mullins already mentioned about getting Ferny Hollow best here as well so the excuses already out for CDS. Would be hoping to see BDA go close to be honest.

Respectable run form CDS and might get a nice drift for Champion Bumper as well...

A little worrying probably that Nick Rockett ran well in behind CDS in the Thurles bumper but didn't too much yesterday but we will see how he is today, been plenty of talk about this lad for a while anyway and he's a big winner :satellite:

Apparently Mullins has a better one at home still.
