Cheltenham 2017 Antepost Bets

Not long to go now, and I'm absolutely buzzing for another week in the sun, with feet up watching the best 4 days of the year :D

Thought I'd done ok with 3 months to go, but some of you lads have smashed it right out of the park with those books!

Lads all these books look like they should in March!! Think we've all talked ourselves into more bets than we should me included!! If all goes well, the bookmakers will be trying to shut this forum down !!

billy - I'd swap my 201 pts for your 160 odd I think... some cracking prices there!

cwright - I love the idea of the bookies spending time and money trawling through these forums and banning us all haha ;) We'd have to go underground!

Very pleased to see Rawnaq popping up too, still 33s available, fantastic! :encouragement:

Rawnaq if a huge price on the exchanges Kev. You'll get 100/1+

Just had a look at getting Getabird into a multiple, decided to stick to the Wednesday :highly_amused:

Doubles and a treble on:

Douvan, Josies Order, Getabird - 48/1 with WH.

You know I like a good handicap plot Job, so as well as dynaste for the Byrne group plate or possibly the 3m handicap on the Tuesday Iv also added taggelitelle for the pertemps.. 4th last year off a British mark of 154 he's been handled with care this year and ran yesterday off 150 finishing a distant 3rd.. I think he may line up on the day carrying somewhere around the early 140s..

On a seperate note has anyone got any strong opinion or ideas regard the fox hunters and cross country? 2 races I have never won

Im really keen on IT CAME TO PASS for the Foxhunters, i backed him in the race last year when he was going really well and fell about 3 out i think. He has loads of entries coming up and they lead me to think hes not a certain runner in the fox hunters so im going to leave him for now till I hear a target but im really keen on him if they go for this again.

Doubles and a treble on:

Douvan, Josies Order, Getabird - 48/1 with WH.

Love this bet - i'm in! :encouragement:

I reckon i'll be putting Douvan and JO in a lot of multiples and I may end up putting them in with all my selections on the day (Wednesday) too

Look no further than Josies Orders for me in the Cross Country (a race I really like actually, think i’m in the minority with that though!). Dissapointed to not see him today but I presume the Bolger didn’t want to risk him on the ground? Without Nina being in the saddle I would have thought he’d try and book up Jamie Codd for the ride come March but Codd again rides Bless the Wings in todays race. Seems he is building up a nice little partnership with the horse (and continuing the partnership with Elliott). I could be reading too much into today but i’d be surprised then if he wasn’t to keep the ride for BTW. Not sure who’d be the likely jockey for Josies Orders? Any ideas? A good jockey booking is the only question mark for him winning the race for me.

On the Fringe is arguably one of the best hunter chases there’s been. I don’t think his age is a huge barrier to him winning again though it may be a case that it takes him a few more races now to get into his peak - he only just won at Cheltenham last year but then stepped up markedly at Aintree onwards. I’d echo billy’s shout on It Came To Pass too in the Fox Hunters though at the price (16’s). He was the horse to take out of last years race definately. Similar to Josies Orders actually in that he is markedly younger than the majority of rivals so should have improvement to come rather than the majority of the horses who have had their best years behind them. I think the likes of Paint The Clouds, Mendip Express, Current Event and co have all had enough shots at the race now and there’s not much else in the race bar ICTP and newcomers switching codes (the like of Grand Jesture). I remember Robbie McNamara being very keen on ICTP before last years race and saying he was held in very high regard so it wouldn’t be too surprising if they wanted to try and target better races?

Total Pts so far: 126 ( all on B365 )

I will be placing multiples once the NRNB starts, probably bumping my total ante post pts up to about 160

Again a lot of us on the same page with picks! Fingers crossed guys!!!

Yeah looking good, some cracking bets, fingers crossed the majority get there to give you a run for your money.

Cheers billy, hope so mate.

No matter what happens, it can't come quick enough. The build up and atmosphere itself is great.

Hope everyone has a successful xmas period to get some betting tokens for cheltenham!!

A nice book Aldie.

Do you find the EW money generally pays off with ante post? I'm very reluctant to double my stake in case of non runners this far in advance. Interested to know how you've fared with this in the past.

Thanks Faugheen, I find that smaller stakes with an each way bet gives me value for my bet, especially with most of the backed horses being in double figures.I would be kicking myself if a 20/1 eachway came 2nd by a nose on a win stake

Last year I had 185 pts ante post. Ended up with 550pts approx. But in all fairness there were a lot more set in stone targets for horses this time last year compared to now i think.

Altior was my biggest stake at a double figure price - 3pts e/w after its first run last season @ 14/1......fair to say it felt rode that one home in my living room last year :D. Set me up nicely for the fest.

I also had put aside around 10pts for each day of the fest and placed trixies and patents . All in all I ended up with around 680/90 pts.

If Djakadam won the GC I would have been closer to 800pts

Some races you've got covered really well Aldie. Looks like you have a similar approach to me in regards to backing multiple horses in a race so pleasing to see you've had success too.

I mentioned before I have more each way this year than before and when you said abouit kicking yourself if one came 2nd... I had Lyreen Legend to win at 50/1 in 2013 and he lost 1/2 length to Lord Windemere. :( I was furious I hadn't gone each way... so over the summer when I actually took the time to look at my own ante post habbits that was one of the deciding factors. Clearly just one 'sore' point and I will have to do my own analysis after the season ends.

Each way on anything less than 12/1 doesn't seem worth it to me ante post... on the day, sure.

Thanks Kev.

I bet the TV was under threat after that!

I remember my first ever antepost bet ever was a tenner on Denman @ 10/1 the year he got beat off Imperial Commander. I thought my luck was in when Kauto fell.....the rest is history.

I think my favourite bet ante post this year is Jenkins ( might have another 2pts e/w @ 9s )

Gonna have a small e/w on LDS for the Neptune in case it goes up in trip

Some great prices there Aldie...

On a completely different note.... Does anyone know why Noble Endeavour would be quoted for the 4-miler??
He was running well in it last year before falling 2 out BUT it is for novices and surely her has lost his novice status...!?!?

He won a Chase on Boxing Day 2015...

At 20's, I'd be tempted - but surely not eligible...

Interesting Alfie. I'm happy to take a horse finishing place on the chin when I'm backing ante post. As I get closer to Cheltenham I'll start placing each way bets but this far out they need to bf 33/1 or bigger for me to consider it.

I will do each way multiples though.

Leman - if he won a chase last Christmas then he isn't eligible. There are a number of horses priced up for the wrong races.

Asum (novice hurdler) is priced up with Stan James to win the Foxhunters!!
