2016 Gold Cup

I cudnt see Ruby doing that Mayo...it wudnt be the politically right move to choose a giggy horse over a ricci horse...Mullins biggest owner against one of their main rivals...wudnt go down well I believe.

Is Ricci Mullins biggest owner though ?

Right now he has an unbelieveable bunch of horses but I suspect Gigginstown rival him for total numbers in the yard.

Good summary Lessey.
You haven't mentioned Smad Place, is he not entering your equation ?

I love Smad Place and was merrily collecting when he hosed up on saturday. Front running clearly suits him as his two best performances have all been bowling along at the front. My concern is he wasn't challenged up front in the either the Hennessy or the BetBright and I don't think he'll be given an easy time up front in the GC with Cue Card, RTR etc also liking to race prominently. Maybe I'm underestimating him but I think he may come up just short.

 Whats the big deal who rides Don Poli. David Mullins or Russell will be just fine if Cooper picks Cossack.

You are right Mayo :)

I have to disagree, Ricci is Wullie Mullins main patron but it dosent matter tho, the point was what will Ruby ride in Gold Cup.it wont be Don Poli for me, Vautour all the way.

Rubys ride ( MG Bookmakers :p)

Vautour 2/5
Djakadam 6/4
Don Poli 8/1
Something else 20/1

FWIW I see Ricci as Rubys main patron with Wylie not that closely behind.

Willie is too shrewd to have all his eggs in one basket ( McCain and Rooney ?) and Riici and Gigginstown probably of similar importance to the yard.

Cooper

Sky Bet go 8/13 Don Poli, 6/5 Don Cossack, 20/1 Road To Riches.

Ruby

Sky Bet also bet 2/7 that Ruby Walsh will ride Vautour, 5/2 that he will ride Djakadam.

Ruby will ride vautour without a doubt and I think he will land the gold cup for mullins

Thanks for the count MG. Gigginstown almost have a yard within a yard at Willies.

20/1 on Cooper to ride RTR is tempting me

should run him in the Ryanair.

I'm taking all i can about Djakadam at 5/1 in singles and multiples you name it, he's still the horse for me regardless of who ruby chooses to ride, i'm yet to choose my layer, i was going to back don cossack to but at a bigger price and with a run valseur lido looked like putting in a good round today and was only just about to get going when falling at the last, ruby had him switched of completely today jumped beautifully until that point and i felt he would have got the better of a ding dong with the eventual winner

The run of Valseur Lido has confirmed my opinion that the King George form is this seasons stand out Gold Cup trial, bearing in mind Smad Place winning last week also.

I think you're right Iain, the KG looks like this seasons best form, overall though I still prefer last years Gold cup form, if Coneygree had avoided problems he would be odds on now, so it's become a case of finding something with the least negatives, not ideal for a race of this stature. Djakadam's run before Christmas was a very good pipe opener too, it's just all the issues with everything has reduced it from looking like a very high quality renewal to something where I find myself wondering which horse will stay on it's feet, or get up the hill, or be able to run it's normal race, I've arrived at the vision of Vautour upsides Cue card 3 out and looking like the winner, then emptying out at the last with them both being outstayed up the hill by Don Cossack, Djakadam and Don poli, if they can remain upright

Yeah Mr MCG its a real head scratcher of a race and the state of the ground will be crucial too.

It's interesting you say the KG is the best form guide to this years gold cup as for me the KG left me with so many questions, if Don Cossack stood up then would he have rallied on past the front two, if ruby held on to Vautour a little longer would he have held off cue card come the line, the horse in 3rd al Ferof has finished there 3 years running each time 9-14 lengths of the winner, the horses who have finished ahead of him the last two years have not placed in the gold cup or not even thought good enough to run in the gold cup and have taken the ryan air option, i think the trend will continue through that form line, unless coming back to Cheltenham really does bring Vautour right to his very best then he might, he might just have enough class to see out the stayers in the race, i am siding with last years form which involves Djakadam and RTR, i just have to believe that was not the same RTR we saw on Saturday in the Irish gold cup
