2016 Neptune Novices.

He has been backed all week - 2nd favourite now. Probably has a better chance here tgan supreme. Has tendency to miss the odd one. Jumping probably less pressured in neptune. Clash with barters on trials day on the cards.
 
Bellshill and Yorkhill both ahead of Yanworth still but I guess only one runs here.

Petit Mouchoir is an interesting horse and Giggy always seem to have horses more suited to this than the Supreme.
 
A Toi Phil was the latest potentially smart Willie Mullins prospect to win at Graded level when readily landing the Grade 2 Nathaniel Lacy & Partners Solicitors 'E25,000 Cheltenham Bonus For Stable Staff' Novice Hurdle at Leopardstown today.


The Gigginstown House Stud owned son of Day Flight went clear of his rivals from the second last flight and in the end recorded a comfortable seven lengths win over Acapella Bourgeois.

Afterwards Mullins stated “he's learning and maturing all the time and was more like a racehorse today compared to his previous few runs.

"It was two and a half miles today, and I'd say he'd have no problem going out to three miles. He's a very accurate jumper, and he'll be entered in all the novice hurdles at Cheltenham. He will probably go for either the Neptune or the Albert Bartlett and I doubt if he will run again before Cheltenham.

"I don't think he was broken in until he was four in France, so he's nearly more like a French three-year-old than a six-year-old. He's still immature."

The race sponsors had put up a €25,000 bonus to the stable staff of winner, A Toi Phil, if he wins at this year's Cheltenham Festival and following the race, bookmakers cut A Toi Phil's price for the Neptune Novice Hurdle to 20/1 (Paddy Power from 25/1), 14s (BoyleSports) 14s (Betfair from 20/1).

I'm on Bellshill as my main bet but did have a play at Long Dog at 16/1. Beat a good field last day and Ruby said he'd be better over longer.
 
Hard to know how good Shantou Village is but it walloped Penglai Pavilion after that horse was looking promising.

Long Dog has beaten some good horses and looks to be Rich Ricci's main horse for this race....interesting

I really like Shantou Village. I read that the owners are keen to run in the Neptune so I've split my stake between this race (16/1) and the 'win any race market' at 8/1. NM has said they are planing to run at Cheltenham on Saturday so that will be some race if the others turn up too.
 
Nice race. Pointed to two festival winners the year At Fishers Cross beat The New One.

FM - I am all over SV as well. :encouragement:

I would keep an eye out Friday to see which race he runs in and then back him for the Fest before his run on Saturday. I can't wait until Friday so I took a chance and just backed him again for this race. I don't see what NM would gain taking him to Donny over 3m. He knows he stays the 3m but to run him first time around Cheltenham over 3m is more of a gamble.
 
Neil says he goes to Cheltenham

"He's very good. We've just freshened him up and he's raring to go," the Bath handler told At The Races.

"He has two entries for this Saturday - Doncaster for the Albert Bartlett trial and at Cheltenham for the Neptune trial.

"The intention would be to go to Cheltenham."
 
Thanks Ballybeen - does anyone have the trainers quotes? I wonder if Tom Segal has confirmation that this race is the owners preference.

"It's highly unlikely that Disko will run," said Meade. "He had to miss a recent engagement due to a little hold-up and, while he has worked well since, he was lame behind afterwards.

"It looks as if he is going to miss out on Cheltenham and we're probably looking at Punchestown for him now."
