Handicap Shortlist - Cheltenham 2020

Hold the note up 12 to 145!

It's more than anticipated but at least they know where they stand. Guaranteed a run and will go there with a leading chance imo.

Let's hope they don't get persuaded to run again though, like they did with Glen Forsa last season.

Seems unfair that the handicapper doesn't have to show his cards. Especially for punters.
As I think you're right that Gordon can request the information.

A strict reading of the Warwick race has SDB about 16lb better than Silver Sheen. This is also the difference in the new Irish ratings so they may hope to get 136 for Silver Sheen in the UK. Given his relative inexperience, I'd say he would be competitive off that but you'd like to hear Jessie's thoughts.

Please F don’t remind me ,
I was on the Glen Forsa journey and even though the 5/1 ( sp 7/2? ) thumping of Kalashnikov was a nice return it was nothing compared to the return IF he’d won the Close Bros !

APlus Tard OR 144 won 16 lengths
Glen Forsa. OR. 138 prior to beating K

138 horses ran off 11 stone APlus Tard ran off 11-5 , won by 16 lengths , realise hypothetical

Sorry boring
Onwards :encouragement:

You say that he is at least now guaranteed a spot if he takes this route.
This race has the most congested handicap of them all, 5/6lb usually separates the lot so a 6/7lb rise may have left him too low.
3lb separated top from bottom a couple of years back....
I’d say a revised rating of 145 is a positive for his chances...

Fair point, but a 8 or 9lb rise would have been perfect. Now he can’t risk his mark going up. And he’ll need to have a lot in hand back down at 2 and a half from his prior performances to win. Still think he has a good chance but thought he’d be perfectly weighted off about 140-143...not 145. Big rise for not winning.

Does he need to run again ?
With him only having completed twice ?
Can't remember.

I 'd be interested to know this Q, Seem's to be a fair few horses going Straight to the .
Festival . ( news last couple of days ).

Red Indian ran last year having run in 3 chases beforehand. He unseated rider in one of them so doesn't seem like you have to complete 3 chases

Hello everyone, this is my first post so please go easy on me! I wanted to share 3 handicap 'dark horses' for the festival (2 i priced up with Skybet yesterday - if anyone needs any pricing up I work from home 3 days a week so can easily do this). The first is On the blind side for the ultima, I am convinced there is a big race in him, hendo on many occassiona in interviews clearly really rates the horse and I think he could be a plot as I am not sure how hard he tried the last twice at Kempton - 147 is about right and he could be dropped following saturdays run - could be wrong and he may not go for the race but at 25s NRNB he is worth chancing.

The second is two taffs - ran a great race in the Hennessy (ladbrokes trophy *yawns loudly*) travelled super but didn't stay he could be of interest again for the ultima (20's nrnb) or the plate (16's).

The last is dame de compagnie - think her mark of 140 is very much workable - would people see her as more of a Coral cup or a Martin Pipe horse?

Welcome HE, nice first post. I'm sure many will appreciate getting stuff priced up

Welcome Hardy :encouragement:

Like all three of those myself even though I haven't backed them yet... NJH clearly does think a lot of On The Blind Side, and I will definitely be backing him soon.

Good name.
Thanks for pricing up OTBS, backed it yesterday.
Just mentioned Champagne platinum for Close brothers on another thread (not priced up with sky), be grateful for that one too.

Dame de compagnie definitely of interest for me, although not always that keen on mares in handicaps (need to be 7lb well in at least for me) But there are a few that look well rated for sure.

25/1 NRNB for OTBS does look excellent... going to get my mate to back him for me now! can't see that lasting...

absolutely all over Dame des Compagne! Been backing it any race for the last month. Also agree with on the blindside, Nicky absolutely loves this horse and he gave it as a horse to follow for the season. Can see that definitely going off shorter when he takes the handbrake off

Leave that with me.

The Conditional was dropped 2lb to 140 for failing to stay in an attritional 3M5F Handicap won by Kimberlight Candy.

One or two prices clipped for the Ultima and Kim Muir, as 140 with winning course form and a subsequent 2nd place in the Ladbroke/Hennessy may see him turn up in one of those 3M handicaps with good form in similar races.

Wow, 20/1 for the Ultima didn't last very long at all, 14/1 best, and most at 12/1.

Thanks for the inisght - got a price, 20's - Does it not need a couple more runs to qualify?

Yep, but that price is ok I reckon cheers.
Thankyou, you're a gent (or lady).

sometimes I ask myself the same question! hahah

anytime - agree - 20/1 is more than reasonable with NRNB. Had a small dabble myself. Would love to see Dallas Des Pictons here, great second in the MP last year, should make a better chaser - has to have a huge chance IMO.
