National Hunt Challenge Cup Amateur Riders' Novices' Chase

Added faugheen at 33s.
40s available.

PP introduced @just 14s. And if he does run, I'd have to think hes a big chance.

A wave of sky free bets should be chancing the 40s with PP that short.

Low risk, high reward

Did the exact same thing before myself. This race actually makes alot of sense for the horse i reckon and you can imagine Patrick being keen on the idea. 33/1 with cashout seems a no brainer.

I've a feeling he won't go over at all. 3M4f? 33s worth the risk, not sure it would happen?

4m jack! But they go a pretty slow pace which should suit the old boy... he gets 3m Ok and stuck on well enough in the Stayers. His class could well get him close.

Wouldn't have backed him without the cashout option tbh.

Its been reduced hasn't it?

I think he's still got enough boot there for the shorter options if going at all. Slower race might help (or hinder) his jumping!

Oh right. Didn't know that. Fancy him even more then! Cheers

Edit - Just checked and yes been reduced to 3m6f mate.

Changes below:

Distance

The National Hunt Chase will be run over about 3m6f (3m 5f 201y).

The number of fences jumped will reduce from 25 to 23.

Horses

All horses must have a minimum BHA rating of 120 to participate. This change brings the National Hunt Chase in line with the G1 novices’ chases staged at The Festival – the Racing Post Arkle Novices’ Chase, the RSA Insurance Novices’ Chase and the JLT Novices’ Chase

Horses must have run in at least two chases and must have finished in the first four in a chase staged over an extended two miles and seven and a half furlongs or further

Horses must have run at least once in a chase during the current season.

Jockeys

All jockeys riding in the National Hunt Chase must have ridden a minimum of 20 times and achieved at least five winners over fences

All qualifying rides must have come in races staged under Rules (i.e. excluding point-to-point races).

Guess we will know if he isnt entered up over 3m before! Quite an informative clause for antepost purposes.

Also entered over 2m 3f too, I might add

According to willie he goes 2m3 at fairyhouse and they've had that pencilled in all year,
But if it is a plan to go for the NH chase, I'm sure hes well aware of the rules, and easy to find somewhere suitable after that.

It sounds like their plan is 2m3f - 2m5f for the time being. With a view to giving him more experience jumping that seems sensible. I thought the conversation between Lydian and Ruby (7 mins onwards - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nN3S1PDMlvI) was fairly telling. This is what was said re Faugheen & 4 miler:

Ruby 'just wouldn't be going back down in trip with him' (whilst watching Faugheen's debut), 'i think when he goes, this was 2 1/2, I wouldn't be surprised...he'll stick at two and a half for the time being, Christmas and Limerick probably two and a half soft ground but I wouldn't be surprised to see him going a bit further when he gets into hotter and better races and the tempo is up'
Lydia 'can you see him turning up at the festival for any chase'
Naill Hannity 'Patrick Mullins 4 miler National Hunt Chase'
Ruby 'could be a possibility you know and why not. He's a genuine grade 1 horse, and the 4 miler I think could have....yeh look if he was to run there he was 3rd in last years stayers and I think his biggest danger will be the second in last years stayers, Sam Spinner'

To me it sounds like Ruby knows exactly what the plan is without spelling it out chapter and verse.

Despite everyone saying, and the FJ thread saying hes out for the season. I still havent seen that myself. All iv seen is something along the lines of, he probably wont make it out which is a real shame.

So on the off chance he does make it out. I expect there'll be alot of un necessary crying .
