Cheltenham Gold Cup 2020

A shocking price given you can back the double independently on 365 at 1325/1. Edit, just noticed you can’t place this as a double. Doh

agree about the price though, 25-1 KG.
means if it wins that he'd needs to be 4-1 or lower for GC.
but you would have had a very small outlay from the very start.
Although I prefer to view these bets as having the winnings from the first leg in the bank, so my brain says my stake is higher.

I requested that price from 365 as have heard the same rumours. Clonmel Oil has been a stepping stone to the KG in the past and the race has always been thought as potentially suiting. He won’t go off anywhere near 25s if he is confirmed and wins his prep in good style. 125s is fair IMO.

Getting ANY G1 win must be the plan with Douvan now... he never hit the heights they have talked up.

I definitely bought the hype.

Part of me thinks they have nothing to lose so why not go here.... but my gut tells me he'd end up in the Ryanair.

I imagine I'll be on him :highly_amused: despite having no actual good form to his name at all still. Unless Vaniteux getting close to the mighty Saint Calvaboss counts

And that Gold cup winner who couldn’t get within 5L of him

It was tongue in cheek picking Vaniteux as he was out recently and popped into my head, however I hope you aren't serious using Sizing John to frank Douvan's form :p

I'll be on Douvan, I just won't until he gets an entry...and ultimately I know he'll be greyed out eventually as a non runner for about the 4th year in a row :very_drunk:

Undoubtedly I will be too, has an entry tomorrow in the Clonmel Oil Chase tomorrow.

If the entries stay as they are it will be very interesting to see the betting, Shattered Love, Monalee, Footpad all very disappointing second season chasers. All horses who have had the GC mentioned about before.

Note: I’m very touchy on the the people who crab his form,

Thought this would be the most relevant thread for this. I’m hearing murmurs that Douvan could take a crack at the King George with a view to getting runs into him whilst he’s fit and healthy. He’s entered over 2m4 on Thursday and if he comes through that well it may become a serious consideration. Backed down from as high as 650.0 on BF into 27.0 as well. Could be be a GC player if fit and well?
Douvan DECLARED to run tomorrow over 2m4 in the Clonmel Oil Chase won last year by Kemboy

Fitzgerald on ATR just confirmed Presenting Percy entered in John Durkan.

Wouldn't be getting too carried away with entries for Percy yet. He had plenty last season inc the John Durkan too. I won't be getting excited until he's declared the day before

Opened up 5/2 with Billys!
Couldn’t believe the opening 5/2. Will be very interesting to see how he shapes over 2m4 tomorrow, I’d assume he’ll be more forward than some of Willie’s at this stage given he was back in a bit earlier.

Agree, has to win impressively receiving weight tomorrow if any of the graded targets are a reality... still believe there is a big one left in him tho.

Not at all, everyone's expecting far too much from him him 1st time up. Townsend is hardly going to go for the kitchen sink on him.

I'd have thought this is very much an introduction, get him round, finish as well as you can without asking any questions. 2nd with a lenient ride would be spot on. An easy win would be unbelievable against race fit, good quality rivals.

Fair point but I was more talking with the King George in mind and what it would take to persuade them to head there. I get the impression that they are keen to make hay while the sun shines... I’d still want to see him win today personally.

The same people backing him today, would have been backing sprinter sacre on his return. And subsequently pissed with the ride he received.

Would be an unreal performance to win this, under the circumstances without Townsend asking him any questions.

They rode him boldly from the front in the QMCC after a year off, now granted he fell so we don’t know what would have played out if it was a tight finish but it didn’t scream nervousness.

The only difference this year is he has summered so should be in even better condition

Yes I’ve backed him to win, but no I won’t be too disappointed if he doesn’t as long as tbere is a hint of the old spark there, his jumping was always fantastic so hopefully that remains

Any updates on the Supreme Racing club syndicate? Mainly to see what prep KEMBOY will get if any or even going to be at the GC

Place layed Douvan at around 1.5 for todays race. He is in his 9yo and 10yo season, is unproven over a trip this far, hasnt won a race since early 2017, injury problems.
I dont expect Douvan to be capable of winning another graded race and think that pulled up is the likliest outcome today.
Tout Est Permis is coming here rather than the betfair chase and may give Monalee something to think about amd the race is surely between them.
