Ultima Handicap Chase 2019

Barney Dwan could have a nice weight - this usually cuts right up

I have been surprised before how few show up - its the only race it happens in.

There all multi entered.
He should be fine
There’s about six above him retired or injured.

Happy with that. Deserved but the angle is all about him bouncing back.

He's going to get a lot of mentions

Holywell bounced back with great still off 153 at the same age well clear of the 3rd

i backed Minella Rocco at Exeter last week because i couldn't resist the price, might have been out for the spin but the way he emptied i couldn't shake off the view that he's gone at the game

I appreciate your opinion but he firstly only finished 13 1/2 lengths behind the winner, over hurdles, a discipline he hasn't performed in for 4 years, led them for a fair way and was weighted 11-12. That was a fair run, and probably done exactly what it needed to do for the horse, a pipe opener I'd suggest.

3 years ago i would have been all over a Jonjo O Neill horse on a decent weight for a festival handicap. nowadays I'm not so sure.

That's fair. He's definitely in decline, and has been for a while. Minella Rocco is his standout though. And the horse loves the festival.

O’Neill said: “I was happy with him at Exeter – it was much better than his run at Cheltenham. He missed a few races earlier in the season, but I thought Exeter was better.

“The plan is to come back here for the Ultima, and then he has three weeks until the Grand National.

“He is still in the Gold Cup – but I would rather give him the three weeks and four days, because that could be important as he has his problems.”

O’Neill is under no illusions about the handicap task facing Minella Rocco.

“The more time he has between races the better,” he said.

“He is off 152 in the Ultima, but it looks amazingly competitive.

“He was loving it at Exeter in fairness. They probably didn’t go a mad gallop, but it was a good experience for him.

“It was nice to see him run respectably – because if he ran again like he did at Cheltenham you think (twice) about coming back to the Festival.”

...Sporting Life’s David Ord likes Ben Pauling’s Le Breuil in this.

Sea of Blue for Minella Rocco. Into 8/1 with PP

Irish have a terrible winning record in this
