Mares Novice Hurdle 2019

Honeysuckle

De Bromhead said, “She just keeps progressing and is a really exciting mare. I thought she jumped well but Rachael felt she didn’t jump as well as her last couple of runs.

“I’m delighted with her, she’s a lovely mare and we’re very lucky to have her.”

De Bromhead added, “I’ll speak to the guys, but I wouldn’t think she’d have another run before Cheltenham. We’ll enter in the mares’ novice hurdle, obviously, and I’ll see what else we might enter in as I just have a thing that she’ll possibly be better over further.

“The mares’ (race) is two-mile-one and she’s won over that kind of trip, but I’ll speak to the owners and see what they want to do. She’ll probably be entered for that and the Ballymore (Novices’ Hurdle) as well.”

Bit of a kick in the nuts for Mares Novice Hurdle backers.... that comes as quite a surprise.

She'll still likely go there so wouldn't be worried if I'd backed her at the big prices. Can't see her winning personally especially with willies hand yet to be played.

If Colreevy, Chante Neige etc aren't entered for either Mares Maiden hurdle in Fairyhouse & Clonmel next week then i'd say its time to start worrying.

and then stop worrying and thinking if he can win the open Mares hurdle first time out, and the Stayers hurdle, he can definitely do it in a Mares Novice version :p

but yeah, would hope to see a nice horse entered up!

Not a lot of form to go on ...anyone heard anything about Epatante recently ? Next race etc ?

Got a bit of a habit of getting trips wrong old Henry. Horse has just won a good trial for the mares novice and it's a stiff track and course (at cheltenham) for a novice, that Mullins has won with 2.5 mile winners in the past.

Think Henry just trots out trip comments just to flatter the horse,
(after winning easily) "think it'll be better over further" or other trainers "be even better on better ground"

It's "excitable post race bullshit"

or EPRB for short.

This was 11 days ago- last update I’ve seen:

Any updates on Epatante would be great and is the Mares’ Novice still plan A?

She had a bit of a dirty throat so had to have a few weeks off but she’s back in action again and I need to get at least another one or two runs into her. Yes the Trull House Mares’ Novice is still the plan.

Thanks - just noticed she wasnt given a Supreme entry ( which I half expected to create confusion about target)

Was it the same situation for the previous 2 with Willie Mullins and this race when declaring his best horse for this race? He’s had the past 2 winners in Limini and Laurina but can anyone remember if there were aimed at this race by the 1st weekend of February?? Is it normal that a WM super mare is announced closer to the Festival? I hope he’s already played his hand as I’ve backed Espantate, Posh Trish & Lust for Glory but I know most of you are waiting on Chante Neige to be announced

Limini was the hype horse all year where as it wasn’t until the Solerina that Laurina confirmed herself as a beast in the division, everyone was waiting for Salsaretta

He's deffinately not played his hand.

I’m betting in the hope that Mullins doesn’t bring a superstar over again, he probably will but he had a similar reputation for the SNH a few years ago but that trend has been broken so it’s more hope than conviction with my 3 choices.

Supremes not an easy race to win. This one Is, if you've enough cash. you could literally go to France right now and buy a horse that would very likely be winning this.

Was told at the DRF this weekend that Willie has 3 he thinks could win this - all waiting for rain. No names were forthcoming but I was encouraged by that. No offence to those who have big prices about Honeysuckle, but I would be shocked if WPM didn't have one to beat her.

Which 3 do you think?

Chante Neige
Colreevy
