I thought we already had this thread set up, but can't find it.

This, from the Racing Post today is stark contrast to what I thought would be the case regarding Tiger Roll.

Elliott said: "It was a very rushed preparation to get Tiger Roll to Cheltenham last year as he got a little setback, as everyone knows. He was very tired after Cheltenham. He had a hard race and he was stiff and sore after the race. If you watch the re-run again, he loses his hind-end a little bit turning in, and he was sore.

"I think it might have been a blessing in disguise [no Grand National run]. He's a fresh horse this year. He's absolutely bouncing at the moment. I'm not sure where I'm going to start him off yet, but he's definitely going to have an entry in Down Royal in the big chase because if the ground turned up quick, you'd be nervous about running Presenting Percy or Delta Work.

"The cross-country at Cheltenham is a big priority for me and he'll be trained for Cheltenham, number one, and the Aintree Grand National, number two."

I think that's a massive statement. I still think Easysland will wallop him again though

Little Tiger Roll is a general 5/1 chance.

Positive news for his loyal fanbase!

There must be a couple more French XCC stars coming through the ranks. Easysland came from nowhere last season to take the race and Tiger apart. Where's Scooby when you need him ???

I'll keep an eye out ! There are a couple I'm tracking but whether they'll come across is another story. With Covid there must be a doubt we see Easysland. Maybe they'll send him over early to be housed here perhaps.

Isn’t Easyland being aimed at the National this year? In which case JP will make sure he’s over here I would imagine

Hopefully the one I wouldn't mind seeing over here, though don't think he's ever performed on a cross country course, but is an extreme distance staying chaser.

One I like the look of in France is Uniketat, only a 5yo he has performed very nicely at Pau over 2m4f in very testing conditions a couple of times on the x country course there, a similar route to Easysland. He still needs to be stepped up in trip but looks to have all the credentials for this sort of test.

Know nothing about the horse so will let the far better informed comment on that but trends are changing for this race, there was a time you could stick a line through all 6yo and horses without a course run, which is no longer the case, so if you like the horse and can get a price my advice would be to take the price now before the name and crudentials are clear...

I have requested a price with one firm so I will see what I get back - any info from others more in the know would be great

Nailed it. I like him too. Very similar profile to Easysland, but all about whether these French animals will/can come over.

Very easy to think that Cheltenham is the 'be all and end all' of the racing calendar but there are some very valuable prizes available in France and Ireland across all spheres, it's entirely possible some of the best cross country horses never leave France, similarly some of Irelands best horse will target Dublin, Punchestown and Fairyhouse...

Absolutely spot on. Not that big a draw to come over anyways re prize money so with Covid issues as well they could all stay at home including Easysland. That's my worry.

Yes absolutely, it’s important to see what price the bookmakers will offer first and that will dictate how I play things. The likelihood is that I will place nothing more than A couple of free bets until Something more is known.

The x country can be very similar to the novice hurdles in that you forget there’s just as much money to be had elsewhere Than over here, prestige aside.

McManus’s champion cross-country performer, Easysland, has the Cheltenham Festival has his main objective again.
He purchased the David Cottin-trained six-year-old after his victory at Cheltenham in December.
“The plan will be to come back for the cross-country,” said Berry.
“He’s very well. They are happy with him. I’m sure if there is a race they will give him a run over there before he comes back to England.
“He’ll stick to the cross-country route. It’s a possibility he could go to Cheltenham before the Festival. There is nothing written in stone.”
