Matt Chapman tipped Gowel Road as he said he had spoken to Sam TD who said he would run in this. This was from the Attheraces preview.

I'm now happy with what stakes I have on him that I'll make the case now.

He's only had three starts over hurdles, winning two (1 in France) and finishing 2nd in a Grade 3. I know some on here believed he could well turn into a Champion Hurdle contender. I think he's probably shown that to not be the case now, however, that doesn't mean he isn't a very exciting prospect. He's a horse I'd be expecting up in trip (and over a fence in time). His breeding suggests this and his run in Auteuil, on his hurdles debut, over 2m1 1/2f would give the impression he'd be suited by further, pulling well clear in the latter part of that race. The form from that French run isn't looking too bad either.

He reminds me a fair bit of Galopin Des Champs, for Willie Mullins, maybe with a little bit more speed, given his performances over 2m. He can't run in the Martin Pipe though, as he's rated too high, but that won't stop him running here. Another horse and profile he is similar of is previous Coral Cup winner, Aux Ptits Soins, he had only ever had two hurdle runs in his career, before winning the race, albeit, both of them runs came in France.

I noticed Gordon has The Bosses Oscar entered up, and it's also TBO's only festival entry, so I wonder if he'll leave him in the race to keep the weights down a little, although even with him in the race Saint Felicien would still have to carry 11-7. I would not be surprised to see Jordan Gainford jocked up on him, claiming 3lbs. He's ridden Gordon trained Robcour horses previously, and that extra 3lbs off would be a bonus.

Gordon has a fair few entered in the race currently, but I believe most of them are going elsewhere at the festival. He may well run 1 or 2 others, but I think this lad is going to be the pick of them, and I can see a real plunge on him taking place on the day.

ive just been at the bham cheltenham preview with robbie power! he said saint felicien is a grade 1 horse and has an excellent chance. They thought he was their champion hurdle horse at the start of the season!

              He'll go off well short.

                    • Any chance Langar Dan goes in this? Not in the Imperial Cup so doesn’t need the extra 2 days recovery, this race is worth more and there’s less chance he bumps into an unexposed novice. Plus should just creep in at the bottom of the weights.

Not unless Willie has phoned him up and told him that State Man is this year's Galopin Des Champ .........

                          .......which I think he is

                          • ….not sure if it’s a reaction to latest declarations or if he’s been mentioned somewhere but there looks to be a bit of blue for TBO, into 14-1 in places but still 25-1 Lads.

Interesting. The return to hurdles/Cheltenham could see a massive upturn in form for him. He'll be involved imo.

….off 154? Wow, not for me but each to their own. The last time the horse actually won was Oct 2020 & he’s never won more than a rated hurdle yet is 154 - for me he is one of the most overrated horses in training….
