Highlight has to be the Savills chase for me.
Galvin getting up in the last strides, great race.
Nothing to do with my win today and the Gold Cup bet!!
Although that did of course add to the excitement,so I guess the bet did have some sway

GDC and Kauto , yep could attract some discussion!!
Who knows what GDC could achieve, but I’m pretty sure the Tingle Creek won’t be on his CV.

Galopin Des Champs was different class
(bar Shishkin) to anything else I saw over the Christmas Racing.

        He was breathtaking.

If Spectre rates his performance as highly as I do, then I'm on the same path with him.

GDC and Shishkin both look superstar material, I hope they are.

GDC was absolutely sensational, Fairly sure (apologies if wrong) that you said Monkfish's debut was the best chase debut you'd ever seen, well this was better IMO, much.

It was a mile better than Monkfish

Monkfish's debut was excellent, but Galopin's needs a different grading structure entirely to be rated on.

I would say Shishkin is already a superstar, GDC looks like he could be at this early stage

I do Sax. The last time I got the same feeling from a novice chaser was almost 17 years ago to the day, when I had the pleasure of being at Newbury to witness a King being born at Kauto's UK debut.

Galopin des Champs this week made the hairs stand up on the back of my neck in exactly the same way, and gave me that feeling again for the first time in all of those 17 years.

As Carnage at Taunton says, GdC won't end up with Tingle Creek's on his CV, but I believe he'd be good enough and versatile enough to do so if they asked him though. They won't of course. He'll just win the Brown Advisory Novice Chase as he likes, and then, assuming he stays sound, go on and win the next three Gold Cups.

He's built for the job, and looks all over the perfect equine athlete. He jumps fast and economically, he galops, he's got speed, he stays, and he looked as though he could have gone round again 5 minutes later, stuffing the next lot of horses any trainer wanted to throw at him. He did it in a way of a horse that I 'd say you might only see three or four times in your lifetime. Something a little bit freakish.

Kev asked me which of he and Shishkin I would want to own, and although he's asking an almost impossible question, I went for Galopin des Champs. He's got more ahead of him than Shishkin, and you'd get to be on the ride that bit longer. Plus he gave me that 'lifetime horse' feeling, that I hope wasn't a one-off performance, and we get to see him do this for the next 5 years or so, just like Kauto did.

As you've all heard on other podcasts, I love Shishkin to bits. My belief in him is unshakeable. But Galopin des Champs gave me that 'Kauto' feeling, and that's other level stuff.

Luck is a dividend of sweat. The more I sweat, the luckier I get.

We are on the same page then.

                  I love Shishkin too.
The best NH horse in training, by some way, until Galopin ran over fences.
Now its the King and the new King in-waiting.

I was amazed how easily Galopin strode effortlessly away from them and jumped so fluently.

I had to rewatch the race back straight after, as after the first 3 jumps I was pressing buttons on a bookies website trying to add him into a few more Doubles and Trebles with other Festival horses with a firm who had left 5/1 up for the RSA.

I was mesmerised, when I watched it back.
                  I still am mesmerised.

It's a good job we weren't on the same FJ video, it would've been a complete Galopin (and Shishkin) love-in.

Last year I watched monkfish make his chase debut and called my daughter in mid race and said look there’s the rsa winner...yes dad that’s a horse can I go now. This year as I was watching GDC i thought back to that moment and thought well monkfish you were born just in time coz this fella is a different breed altogether. Someone needs to check he isn’t a dna mutation. Seriously I hope he is as good as we all feel. I am heartened by the fact that some of the best judges on here and therefore on the planet think he is so I am allowing myself the luxury of getting excited.

I’ll put up Ferny Hollow as a massive performance in the 2m novice chase. I wasn’t sure if he could give that weight away but he did it with relative ease. I’d go as far to say missing the last fence inconvenienced him more than Rivi?re Detal, his jumping had improved a lot form debut.

I think the showdown with Blue Lord will determine Arkle number 1 but you have to feel the yard have their man in FH imo.

Nowt wrong with allowing oneself to get excited, I’m like that every time Shishkin gets an entry!!
Yes, we al know what can happen in this game, but still we’ve got every right to get excited when we see these types

He is so much better than normal Grade 1 horses.
