  • Three Horses That Are Much Too Short

These would be my place lay treble.

    Arkle - Brewinupastorm

Interrupted season and inadequate trip. Likely to go a million miles in this and unlikely to have the pace or jumping ability to stay in touch. Will do well to complete.

    Ballymore - The Big Getaway

Nice long term prospect but he has just won a very poor novice hurdle. He is a point off a horse who is unbeaten in three hurdles including at graded level. Another trainer and we would be talking a 20/1 shot.

    Bumper - Ferny Hollow

Form isn't good enough and looks a complete dodgepot. Hard to believe he is even making the trip.

If you are going to start a thread on horses that are too short you need to be more aggressive than attacking 7/1, 8/1 and 12/1 shots no?

    Grow a pair.

    Here are mine:

Lay Goshen. 7/2, flat track small field bully that cant jump. Big lay
Lay CPS 5/2, was emptying v Min, DDS will devour him up the hill. Big lay
Lay Champ, shite jumping technique and poor prep. His own worst enemy. No thanks. Big lay

Shiskin - Plenty of potential improvers / classy types in there
Champ - priced on his name and connections rather than performances
Altior - needs to be a lot better than last year to win this. Jury’s out

Shiskin - nice horse, plenty to like but 5/2 is a joke of a price
Min - very short for a horse that was thrashed round here last year
Envoi Allen - Has been short all year but now some decent opposition has materialised - he's really, really short

Epatante 3/1 is an horrific price.
Beat up on fast ground horses in a soft ground Christmas hurdle and one failed trip to Cheltenham, couldn’t be tempted to back her at three times her current price...

            1. Epatante - 9th in the mares novice only last season. Has to prove she can act at the track and her price doesnt factor that in.
            2. Santini - should not be favourite for the Gold cup on what he has done so far.
            3. A plus tard - wrong way around in the market for the Ryanair. Min should be clear fav

              Champ - All hype
Solo - Silly Price for what he’s achieved so far
Notebook - Just a gut feeling

                1. Goshen- jumps horrifically to his right needs to lead and won’t be able to lead Allmankind to the first.
                2. Pentland Hill- 5/1 after getting beat in the international and by a handicapper in Ballyandy. One point bigger than Epatante who at Kempton thrashed Silver Streak who was placed in the Champion Hurdle last year.
                3. A Plus Tard- can’t see why he’s shorter than Min, Chacun Pour Soi was undercooked for his first run like many of Willies, I think Mins a certainty 4 from 5 over this trip (should be 5 from 5) has very good Cheltenham form behind Altior albeit got a horrendous ride last year in the Chanpion Chase. If he goes from the front this year he won’t see another rival.

If you are going to have a little dig it might be an idea to read the original post.

If we are talking a PLACE LAY then they are quite obviously a lot shorter.

Interesting many against APT im very much in his camp I get Min has bumped into Altior repeatedly but that’s no guarantee he gets his head in front

I think many are badly priced but I'll stick to three favs for now.

Epatante - The CH makes no sense at all to me this year, and this is just another reason why.

Champ - said this last year too. He almost proved me wrong then but I just cannot look past his shocking jumping. The novice chasers have left me down after being so excited but I still reckon Champ either clips one or just doesn't find enough. I'd also have a few doubts over his staying power.

A Plus Tard - I dunno I just feel off about the horse. Yes he beat CPS but CPS had a rotten old day then and even so Ordinary World wasn't a million miles away that day. Think Min should finally win one and hack up at that.

Tiger Roll - Taking off the rose tinted specs, he is WAY behind where he was this time last season, and because he's coming back from injury I think this year the big circle on the calender is around the 3rd Grand National, not the poxy prep race at Cheltenham. If he doesn't win the Cross Country as he's still getting towards his peak, then they'll settle for that. He's already a festival legend with a million wins, one more doesn't make a jot of difference to his legacy now, he's elavated himself above that.

He was the same price last year as he is this year (if not shorter?) when he had a perfect prep.... If you forced me to lay a shorty, it'd be him - the public love for him means he's shorter than he should be.

Paisley Park - 8/11 now, Big Bucks was evens every time on the morning. If you lay him now you could back him on the day at a bigger price. Is that cheating?

Close for third between Appreciate shIt and Shitshkin
Both got chances, just able to get 'shit' into their names.

.... am I being serious? Who knows!

I wouldn't like to lay anything at odds on really, no fun in that, but if I had to I'd be looking at these three perhaps?

                            Place Lay - Captain Guinness
Place Lay - Riders Onthe Storm
Place Lay - Clan Des Obeaux

1 - Shishkin - Looks a superb renewal. Proven Grade 1 novice winners this season at a bigger price than him? Asterion Forlonge double the price? Henderson’s Supreme record is hardly great. Plenty with his profile have come and gone. At 3/1, I can let him win. I couldn’t have him at all at those odds.

2 - Goshen - Everyone knows I think this lad just can’t (obviously he can literally) win. He can’t jump. I’m not having it that this fellas jumping will be better in a race surrounded by top class juveniles. Add to that, it’s probably the best renewal in a very very long time. Massively against him.

3 - Epatante - Terrible race but I can’t get last years mares novices out of my head. She was awful that day. She looked good over Christmas but I still think that surely there will be something that beats her. Surely?
